You can try some natural induction methods in the meantime to try and get things moving - evening primrose oil capsules can be inserted next to your cervix from 36 weeks I think - they are meant to act a bit like prostoglandins (the stuff that is in sperm that can induce labour) - there is a thread somewhere that explains how to use them. Also walking everyday, raspberry leaf tea, nipple stimulation, shaking your booty. Try it all if you can, it can only help if you want to go into labour naturally.
The cervix swipe is called a stretch and sweep. If your cervix isn't favourable, it can be really painful and it did nothing for me when my cervix was unfavourable. Everyone is different though so it's worth asking
