schimckers, I think he had treated a girl who did it wrong and had damaged herself 'downstairs'. He said once your in or close to labour you have hormones to help you stretch. But beforehand there's the potential to damage yourself.
omg - that sounds hideous! Poor lady - hope she was able to heal well. What was she doing??!!

I have not started yet - and so many of you seem to have got by fine without it. I have tried a few times, but find it awkward and still not too sure what I really should be doing. I think I am needing to just relax about it and accept that if it happens it happens, its not the worse thing that could happen. I dont get stretch marks, but Im not convinced that will help me out down there...

This is great hearing these replies - keep `em coming!

    I know! I can't imagine!

I don't get stretch marks either, so I think that helps in not tearing.

If tearing is related to how prone you are to stretchmarks then I am doomed!! Even though I've been using stretchmark cream everyday I have the worst stretchmarks!

Well I feel really silly cause I bought the Epi-no $175 and have not even used it. Because we will be having a CS now! I guess I have wasted money on sillier things. I don't think its something you can sell on ebay!

I've read about it and i'm not convinced that it's actually gonna help. You have to stretch a hell of a lot more on the actual day than what you do when you massage yourself

Puppies - depending on which one you got, the Epi-No can be used as a pelvic floor trainer and that needs to be worked and strengthened even with a c-section. Pelvic floor injury / stress can occur just due to pregnancy / weight gain etc and not just from a vaginal birth. You may not have wasted your money even with a change in birth plans
