Does "cervix opened" mean the same as "dialated"?

I had my hospital visit today & the OB did a stretch & sweep on me.

She said my cervix is open 2.5cm. Is that the same as being 2.5cm dialated or are they totally different things??

Probably a stupid question but I seriously dont know!

I had a quick search through BB but couldn't find an explanation.

Bubs head is almost "fully engaged". OB also said cervix isn't high.

With the information I've given you above do you think labour may be close or is there really no way to tell?

There is no way to tell, but you wont be pregnant for too much longer!!!

I can only assume he meant dialated, I dont know how else you could be open...
Your cervix will move up high when you are close, and will open up, "disappering" to the sides for bub to come through... HTH

It sounds promising but also most women who've had a baby before will be a couple of cm's dilated in their last few weeks. I remember I was 3cm at 38 weeks with my second baby.

But being almost fully engaged and your cervix easy to reach sounds pretty good. Hope you got your bags packed

Yay! DH was telling me its totally different so I thought I'd ask you girls on here!

& yes I finished packing my bag a couple of days ago
