    Does this sound right?????

This may be better off in the VBAC thread, but i do have questions for just normal labour too.. so not sure exactly where to post this......

I have a friend who is in 38+4 days by her dr's dates, and 39+5 by her dates. She has been in and out of hospital for the last 7 weeks with on and off contractions and labour pains. Also her blood pressure has been up and she has been on meds for that and meds ot try and stop the contractions and steroids for the baby. Over all this time she has only dialated to 4cms, but she is in alot of pain, and now she is bleeding heavily.

Also a bit of backround, this is her second bub, she had her little girl at 28 weeks as she had a ginormous tumour growing out her bum. My friend needed a csection for this baby coz there was no way bubs and the tumour (which was bigger than bubs) was going to successfully come out naturally. SHe also had the long cut down the centre of her belly, not the little cut along the bikini/undies line. Bubs is doing fine now, she is great actually, tumour was removed and she is a terrific little girl!!

Now early in her pregnancy she did say she was "open" to VBAC, and good on her. But after nearly two months of on and off labour and pain, and now bleeding she has asked them to please just go ahead with a csection, and now apparently they are refusing her that choice. Or at least until she get's to 40 weeks by her Dr's dates.

My question is is the RIGHT?????? Surely bleeding heavily and being in a lot of pain are signals for maybe doing something abit earlier??? I am just curious if anyone bleed heavily during labour (she said she is filling a pad in an hour, if not quicker) or in pre labour that went on for more than a few days (she only started bleeding yesterday) The dr's are telling her that its just her plug and not to worry, but she is worried, and i am worried for her!! Could it be that her waters have broken????

They have been keeping an eye on bubs and he is going ok, his heart rate isnt getting too high or low and there is still good fluid there, but they want to send her home with panadene forte and let her "wait it out", which is what she has been doing for the last two months!!!!!!

Now i know that in most cases things are best to progress on their own and that this could all be ver normal, but as someone who hasnt had a full on labour, it just doesnt sound right to me to be bleeding heavily. And its not a thread i have some across of anyone mentioning bleeding heavily.

Also my friend is very young, she is only 19 and i just get the feeling that they think she is exagerating her pain (even though she did experience labour with her first bubs, who actually got as far as her head poking out before the drs beleived she was in labour- same hospital)

Is it just me being over protective of my friend and scared for her that something will happen to her lil baby if they dont do something, or does this all sound not right???????

    TIA

    What hospital is this??

That is total neglegence on their behalf. Bleeding most certainly is not normal during labour. And not as much as she is bleeding. I would be getting a second opinion if i was her. I really hope she and the baby are ok and will be ok. If she is in pain they need to do something not send her on her way!

Wow that sounds so wrong! Especially the bleeding. If it were me i'd go to a different hospital. Or just turn up at A&E. It sounds really serious.

Yeah thats what i have told her to do. I am pretty sure i cant mention names LMS.. but you know the hospital we went to.. well its not that one. But thats where i have told her to go.

I'm glad its not just me, i didnt think bleeding was normal by any standards.

I hope the dr's take her seriously at the new hospital. I have never had a labour, but that amount of blood does not sound right in labour or otherwise.

I agree that that amount of blood is definitely not right.

Also, even though way back 50 years ago my own GM had a VBAC after a classic Csect (vertical scar) I didnt think there was any way a hospital would let someone Vbac these days after one! (not that I think theres anything wrong with doing it, just that the incidence of rupture is higher, but I dont know actual stats....?)
Just sounds a bit strange to me...
From what you've described it does sound as though they are not taking her seriously, good o you for being a great friend and being there for her, I think going to the ER is some great advice there!

I thought the "yeah That" man had disapeared.. i went to use him the other day!!!!

Yeah traveller i do agree and i think that is where they are coming from wanting to wait til 39 weeks. Its just the bleeding that is really concerning!!!!!

Thinking of your friend. I hope she and her baby are both okay.

I don't understand how the hospital could ignore that amount of bleeding
^^ yeah that!! I hope they are both ok. It's scary what doctors seem to think is normal and don't listen to their patients xxx

Well last night she called "hospital B" the one she hadnt been to yet, and they told her that with the bleeding she needed to go to hospital, but that she needed to go to the OTHER hospital again ("hospital A")!!!!! :O

So... she ended up actually calling an ambulance, and on the way to hospital A, her contractions were coming too close together, that the ambulance decided she needed to be at the closer hospital.. the one she wanted to go to .. Hospital B!!!!!!!

So its was about 11:30 by the time she got there and got seen, the last message i have from her is that she is waiting, i have sent one to her this morning and i have no reply, so i am thinking she is either resting or possibly recovering ??? She may have needed a GA, (assuming she went in for a csection last night)

So just waiting waiting waiting waiting for some news!! I do have to go out this morning and for some reason Tap talk doesnt work on my phone anymore, but i have Beema on facebook, and i will let her know any news and she can post (if thats ok!!)

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and care!!! I really hope its all good and i hear something soon!!!!!

No worries SB, I am so glad she called the ambo's but also sad that she had to just to be taken seriously it really concerns me that our medical system has treated your friend like this.
I hope everything has gone smoothly for her xxoo

I so hope that they listened to her! And that both her and the baby are doing well. My sister was 15 when she had her first and I've seen the difference age makes when it comes to being looked after. Fingers crossed for that text.

SB, I truly hope that everything is ok with your friend and her bub.

I know how frustrating and upsetting it is when some Drs/Obs just won't listen or take the time to investigate a pregnant mothers concern, especially when the evidence is so obvious

Glad to hear that she called the ambos. Hopefully you will receive some good news soon.

My thoughts and prayers are with your friend & bub.
