    Eating your PLACENTA????

i came across an article stating that some woman choose to eat their placenta. They say all u have to do is cook it and it kinda tastes like liver. Its meant to be full of goodness, such as protein etc. What do u think u would do?? would u eat it????

I wouldn't personally, but I don't see what is wrong with it - all mamalian animals eat the placenta's of their newborns - even lick them clean, so this is just an extension of that. You can also have it dried, powdered and made into pills to take too. Eating the placenta, or even just taking a bite is an old remedy for stopping PPH (post partum haemorrage)

As a vegetarian that also poses a bit of a weird ethical dilemma ..... even though an animal didn't die to make it, is it still classified as "meat" and if it tastes like liver could I stomach it??

I have no problem with anyone else doing this as it doesn't hurt anyone and the areguments for it make sense. I don't think that I could do it myself, although if it was a life threatening situation I probably could.

There are a few threads about this, do a forum search and you will find more interesting info too.

I have also heard of licking the placenta to prevent PPH.
