If you're in a place where you're embarassed in labour, your not in strong enough labour lol. Once in full blown active labour, you don't even care who's in the room while you pee with the door open. Labour takes your full attention that you don't notice. Seriously.

I was gonna say just what Kelly said. Once you are in labour you won't care about anything else except focusing on the labour and getting past contractions and getting the baby out.
Dont be embarrased the midwives have seen everything!
I was a little embarrased after giving birth when I remembered myself swearing my head off, lol. Sure they used to it tho!

i have to agree with this i remember thinking i dont want ppl seeing me nude or in the shower or bath or spa but by the end of it i was nude walking around and the door tot he corridor was open and ppl were walking back and forth.

I was worried about the awkwardness too, I was joking with my birth support partner about whether I would write hello on my boobs so it would be nice when I got naked - and seriously, I could have given birth on a main street of the city (as long as it was relaxing and comfortable and safe feeling) for all the inhibition I felt!
I had a job to focus on, and couldn't have cared less about anything else.
As Kelly and others have said, by the time you're down to the business end of birth, you will not be worrying about a thing. You may even feel some satisfaction in later finding out you pooped on the hand of the person who said 'just breathe' or something.

... i also vomited which can happen in the late stage of labour, i wasn't nervous or frightened i just remember sitting on the hospital loo then had a very sudden urge to vomit & i quickly said to DP " i'm gonna be sick get THAT bucket " ... then me blarrrr, yeh vomited in the bucket and that was it i never thought another second about it, moments later i walked out into the labour room & within 10mins i was giving birth
Yey, i soooo darn agree whether it be vomit, poo, wee or whatever YOU WILL NOT CARE as you will be soooo focused on getting through the contractions & giving birth

My dd pooed all over me and i put my hand in it thinking what is this only to find out the tar like substance was her poo. Midwifes just nicely clean up any accdeints if they should hhppen. Have ya ever noticed the drs wearing plastic glasses well if the use them then obviously its a common natural occurrence.thats what i figure.

poohs and wees are nothing to midwives and nurses.... honestly its just part of the job... a poo popping out during something as miraculous as a baby being born sure has to beat a poo coming out in any other situation...

Okay..in between pooping-n-peeing...with DS#2...I cried like a big ole fat baby at TV adverts.......I am kinda abit *what the???* about that!
But yer...:yeahthat: to what Kelly wrote.....I was like you...but when you are in serious....goal orietated pain.....I would tell the Quenn where to go Billy Connelly style...well i did but it was my OBGYN! Ooop...

Agree with whats been said, especially Kelly.
I was terrified of pooing during labour, but it just didnt happen, I was lucky enough to go hours before labour LOL...
Vomiting was bad for me though, I had to chomp on ice to help it.

Seriously don't worry about it. Easier said than done I know but if it happens they are so blase. Even my OB cleaned up after me

It's the pressure of the baby's head that pushes the poo out...believe it or not, it's a good sign that bub is very close!
I never got the runs prior to labour and I was really hoping I wouldn't poo during labour. However, I pooed both times and the midwives got rid of it very briskly and with no fuss at all. The first time I was embarrassed (I'd had an epidural and had no feeling or control down there, so was also more aware of what was going on around me) but the midwife was lovely, very understanding without making any comment at all, very hard to explain! Second time I was in full blown active labour with no pain relief and did not care one tiny jot.
I certainly couldn't help it and they have seen it all before. I suppose I would prefer that I hadn't but it was far from embarrassing or humiliating and doesn't bother me at all that I did.

Kelly said it perfectly, my labour was very quick and with no warning, so things happened that were "embarrassing" should it have happened at ANY OTHER time, I have no idea how many people were in the room, as DD was almost 7 weeks early there were quite a few "extras", but I didn't care and didn't even notice the extra people, it was only when I asked later that I found out that there were about 10 people in the room
But hun they have seen it all before, it is completely natural and normal and at the time you won't even realise.

I lost my show on the bathroom floor. It must have dropped out while I was walking to the toilet. The midwife saw it and told me it was a lovely show! and then cleaned it up. I was on the toilet while this was going on.
I also vomited on a different midwife and I'm kind of happy that I did. She took my gas away. I told her I was going to and she got a basin, but she took it away again just before I chucked.
