I would get some Milton sterilizing tablets from the baby area in the supermarket. But rinse very very well after sterilizing. I wouldn't borrow one off someone I didn't know well though.

I had a vacuum with DS1 and after a few tries with that they then cut as well as vacuum. I wasn't super happy with that, but I believe it was necessary as DS1 was born posterior with his hand up beside his head. DS2 was a whopper of a baby (4.5kg) and born with just some grazing.
