Question Essential Oils in Labour and a few other things?

    Hi All,

Just wondering what oils you used for burning or massage while you were in labour? I have thought about just using lavender but have had it burning today and TBH I don't think I like it enough to use at such a significant event.

What would you use? is there a specific blend that is good for labour? would you use something that promotes relaxation or something to help energise?

Also on a separate but still labour related issue,

I don't really have a birth plan because I am worried if I go in with a certain expectation and it doesn't turn out that I will end up very disappointed. Is that silly? All I do know is that I do not want an Epi unless I am going under the knife again as I am worried I won't feel anything IF something starts to go wrong (like uterine rupture)

Am I being a bit naive?

All I do want is my hubby by my side and my baby to be ok and I want a nice comfortable environment thats as calm as can be.

    Thanks all

    Nae x x x

i didn't have a birth plan for exactly that reason. i'd discussed with DH and my SIL (support person) what i'd prefer, and asked them to talk to me if i started asking for things i hadn't wanted (like the Epi). i managed to go several hours past my "over it" point before having any meds.

given that you will probably need extra monitoring for VBAC, make sure you talk to them about the portable monitors they can put on (wireless) and what is to happen with the bath and moving around. make it as clear as possible that you want an active birth

take an MP3 cd of music - the cd players at w'gul are compatible - i didn't hear the same song for 12 hours lol

ummm massage oil - i never used any! i took a carrier oil in case i wanted something - i figured i would want to massage, not the smell kwim?

ooh, meant to mention on the weekend - w'gul do cloth for newborns - all you need is a cover! you might be able to get away with little miss never having to wear disposables if you want - feel free to PM me if you want more info about them once bub is here!

TBH - the only thing i had in my birth plan was that they were not to give me any 'drugs' what so ever, no matter how much i begged for them (only because i knew i would )
I also asked to have a mirror so i could watch.. that was it!!!!

I had no music, no massage oils etc... BUT i was lucky enough to be a support person to a good friend on monday and she had the radio going for her whole 16 hour labour and it seemed to make her relax a little more!!!

Nae...I can email you a list of oils you can use and shouldn't use.

I'd use mainly lavender & neroli or petitgrain mix with carrier oil
Or lavender with geranium and a tiny bit of neroli mixed with carrier oil.
But if you have very sensitive skin check how geranium reacts with you, but i really enjoy this blend and i found many of my moms enjoyed it to...

And I'd maybe use Rose oil just here or there not necessarily as my main massage oil.

Jasmine and Clary Sage only near the end of labour....best i email you the info if you interested my email is bengil21@gmail.com and I'll forward it to you
