We only have an unstaffed birth centre in our town (midwife only there as needed), so we stay for two hours after the placenta is delivered and then go home. Then the midwife comes daily to check progress for the next 5-6 days and are available any time if you are struggling or have any worries.
So my DD was born at 6.50am and I was home at 10.30am. Not as sure I would have wanted to leave so soon after my first birth. In fact I wouldn't have been able to if I wanted because I had an epidural and they wouldn't even let me stand up for about 12 hours.
