    music for labour

I'm sure there must've been lots of posts about this before, but i'm looking for recommendations of CDs to play during labour. I've heard that baroque music is good as the tempo is that of the resting heartbeat?
I have the music for dreaming (mother and baby ones) which is great relaxation music now - i use it quite a lot, and DS loves it too when we go to sleep. So i'm thinking of taking that one.
I have some meditation CDs too but i just can't seem to get "into" them - they always make me laugh - i think i respond better to just music.

I went to dirt cheap cd's and got a pack of 6 meditation disks for $10 they're actually really nice to listen to. Also have some rainforest celtic sounding music by Dan Gibson and an album by Dreamcatcher that are really nice... Dad2be wants pantera and rammstein, I said no lol

I actually just took in some favourite cd's...coldplay parachutes and crowded house best of

couldnt handle crowdies towards the end of labor and into transition as the music was just a little too fast and jiggy...the mellow tones of coldplay worked well for me

music helps to calm the central nervous system and encourages the release of endorphins...so choose something that is comforting and familiar for you

I had planned on making up compilation cds to take in with me, but I never got around to it as Nicholas was early.......

Just as well, I HATED music when I was in labour! When we arrived I asked DH to put the stereo on which was fine until I had a contraction and then I was screaming at him to turn it off LOL.

Sorry, that's not much help, but if I were you I'd just take in stuff that you like to listen to. Much as I like baroque music, I can't imagine playing it during labour! I think classical would be better. Music for dreaming sounds good

Lol its funny - I had planned to make cd's to take - but procrastinated and it never happened. On the way to the hospital we were listening to the radio (4KQ for those in Brisbane), and said that I wanted to listen to the radio in the delivery room. We did. It was relaxing and probably a better variety than I could have come up with. I know they were mostly 60's and 70's songs - but it was comforting!

    Definitely Jack Lim's music.

    From his website:
Qi Energy Music™ is Jack Lim's unique creation. This is beautiful self help music composed and played by this leading international Qi Energy healer and teacher. The harmonious vibrations in his music and his positive thought for healing, inner peace and harmony and change have empowered thousands.

“May you Enjoy the Music, Feel the Qi in the Music, and through Qigong gain Inner Peace, Happiness, Health and Longevity.” - Jack Lim
Qigong is the ancient Art of Longevity, developed over 7,000 years ago in China. Qi (chi) is the life force or energy of the body which travels the network of meridians within the body and joins with the energy of the universe. Qigong is the second and deeper wave of Chinese culture to the west after Taichi.

Qigong Grand Master Jack Lim was prompted to put his healing energy through music to help others when a patient asked for something to help her at night when she suffered most from fear. From then onwards, Jack started composing special music, each with a specific healing for the heart, mind and body. Jack plays all the music himself on a keyboard so the energy is clear and pure. Listeners have been able to sense the energy of great peace and harmony and love.
My CalmBirthing Instructor used this music during all of her sessions and I played one of his CD's (which I purchased from her) throughout my labour (on loop) and OMG it was fantastic, it was soooo peaceful not once did the music get on my nerves and no one else noticed either. It helped create a beautiful and peaceful environment. I also leant the CD to my gf who managed to have a Drug Free labour even though she hadn't planned on it, and had 2 other kids with whom she had drugs during their births. AMAZING stuff

He has a website so if you google Jack Lim it should come up. I used Inner Peace during birth and you can listen to a sample on his site.
