I think you just need to do what's best for YOU, not them. I went home the day after Emily was born, and as it was my birthday that day, I had all my family and my DH's family around for dinner. They couldn't believe how organised I was, and how I was really keen on having them all there! But that's what I wanted.
With Nina though, I didn't have a very good recovery at first, so I had to ask friends not to come until I was home and settled.

You might feel differently once bub is here, or you may not. Just evaluate things once bub is here and see how you feel.

Yes, omg everyone who can to visit wanted to hold Claire. It was so annoying. Like when I was just picking her up to feed her and someone would walk into the room uninvited and try to pick her up out of my arms whie I was trying to get comfy to feed her. Stupid idiots! After a few people doing that I started saying no. I wish DH had more brains - i cant believe he couldnt see that I didnt want anyone else to touch her!

Don't tell anyone until you go home! Then request that they give you 2 days notice prior to visiting (immediate family excluded if you like).
I really think we as mothers need to take control over that situation again. I cracked it with my first, I was in labour, a LONG 47.5 hour labour, and my XP father was at the hospital almost the whole time, taking my XP out of the room to ask how I was going, blah blah... Yeah I get he was excited, his first grandchild but GEEZ!
This time around, I only told people that I wanted to come visit, and told them to keep it quiet until I told other people. I had 4 visitors at the hospital
