What exactly is the myth behind pinapple?

Ok, so here I am eating a pinapple, not that I mind its yummy!
But what exactly is the reasoning behind this myth to induce labour?

I think I remember reading that you shouldn't eat alot in early pg as it can cause m/c, is there any truth in that?

    No further info sorry,
But I did have some serious pineapple cravings at about 19-20weeks, so I hope I didn't do any damage. I think I had 4 pineapples in a couple of weeks, mmmm... pineapple *drool*...

I don't think i've heard a myth involving pineapple and bringing on labour... The only myth i've heard in relation to pineapple is making a certain thing that belongs in the AO thread sweeter  lol

In Bali they say not to eat Pineapple or drink Sprite in early pregnancy....

Noone seems to know why, it's just passed on from generation to generation....?

I guess initially something bad happened to a woman in early preg & so they blamed it on the pineapple!!!

I hope bubs decides to come anyways!

I read somewhere today that it can encourage uterine contractions... but that you would have to eat a huge amount.

    Fresh pineapple
There is an enzyme in pineapple which is also reputed to be a natural inducer of labour – however the enzyme is only found in fresh pineapple (the process of juicing or tinning the pineapple destroys it) and is only present in small quantities. Allegedly you would have to eat as many as seven pineapples to consume enough to have an effect.
I don't think I could eat 7 in one go!

Mmm, so if you go overdue do you think you'd be adversely affected by eating 7 pineapples in a row?
Perhaps you could share a few with DH and test out the AO myth at the same time!

LOL, DH is so tired from the mental state me being overdue has put him in, I don't think he even would be in on that one! The idea of tasting if that myth is true makes me gag!
