Asprin - prevent high bp in pregnancy?

My obstaetrician has just prescribed me asprin to try and stop the pre eclampsia from becoming a problem in this pregnancy. I've never heard of this before... has anyone else been told to try this?

I was put onto half an aspirin in my last pregnancy to help keep my blood pressure low too.

Don't know if it was the aspirin that helped or not, but my BP was not a problem this time round - I developed pre-eclampsia towards the end of my second pregnancy.

    Hope this helps

It is one the many things they think Asprin does ... I was told this may help my BP by both OB (Professor) and Nephrologoist (Pregnancy specialist)

Absolutely. Because I had PE with Alex, I was on Cartia (low dose aspirin) from 12 weeks to 36 weeks. Basically it keeps your blood thin which assists in the control of high BP.

The other medication that you might be put on, is a type of beta-blocker, usually Labetelol in Australia. However, there are some side effects of this medication, usually associated with low birth weight, because (as I'm sure you already know) high BP or PE is the result of the baby not receiving enough nourishment from the placenta, and by lowering the BP you also reduce the amount of nourishment going to the baby.

I was given Labetelol from 16 weeks to about 30 weeks (if I recall correctly) with Ned.

    Good luck.

Ok I found the info I was looking for and yes aspirn can help with high blood pressure. However it has some potential nasty side effects and is not recommended for use without medical advice.
