    Hi
Congrats on the arrival of your niece. Hoping everything is going well.

Just wanted to say on PET - I have had it in 2 pregnancies and am preg again - I choose to see a private dr for this reason too and am monitored closely. There is NOTHING they can do to prevent the onset. There is lots of research with lots of explanations but no-one actually knows. I am overweight so a likely contributor to me getting it, I had to have c-sections both times - emergency with my first because of my bp at 36wks and was in hospital for a bit before having a c-section at 35 - 5 with my twins because of bp they had to deliver. But then my sister is TINY and has had PET in all 4 of her pregnancies. She gave birth at 28wk ,30wks,31wks and 34wks. Although they were all so little and early, they are all healthy children now 9,7,3 and 6mths of age.
We are completely different physically but have both had it in all pregnancies so far (her Dr told her it could be hereditary!)

Who knows! I was told alot of the time those who get it in their first preg won't get it in their second, yet we both did . Here's hoping I don't in my third preg but again, who knows!

Sorry - going off track here.... your SIL wouldn't have been able to prevent getting PET and hoping everything's ok for her your niece and your family!!!

Congrats on the birth of your niece. I hope that her stay in NICU/SC is a short one.

I developed PE right at the end of my pregnancy. I had my 40 week check up on the Monday and there were no signs at that time. I went into labour on the Wednesday and went in to have my contractions monitored and lo and behold I had severe PE. I am a fit and healthy person who eats really well and is not overweight. I agree with what Owens5 said - there may be a hereditary link. My younger sister gave birth at 24+4 weeks due to severe PE. Again she is fit, healthy, not overweight and eats well.

It is one of the great unknown diseases... lets hope that someday they do find out what causes it as it is such a horrible thing to have for both the mum and the bubs particularly when they have to arrive so early.

owens5 Congrats on the new bubba coming, i really wish you all the best with the preg and hope that the dredded PET is not a factor in this one My goodness you dealing with it twice and your poor sister having to deal with it 4 times. It's such a terrible thing and so frustrating that it's such an unknown when it can have such serious complications on both the mother and the baby. I am so happy to hear that between you and your sister you have 7 (i think i calculated that right) healthy children. You are blessed

My SIL was also told that it was unlikely she would get it in the second pregnancy and something about it being more unlikely with the same partner also In memory of my nephew i'm going to donate to the Pre-ecplamsia association in Victoria each Birthday and Christmas and hope one day they will have some answers for you all.

For my SIL her son was born at 27+? because he was no longer growing. With her daughter she was still doing ok in the tummy it was my SIL that was extremely unwell and my niece was born at 29+1. Thankfully my niece is doing an absolutely amazing job of growing (she is being guided by her big brother for sure ) she was transferred from the intensive NICU after only 2 weeks and is currently at our local hospital doing fantasticly. She's 2kg, tolerating her feeds so well and even having some boobie time here and there. It's such a wonderful feeling to see the progress and her doing everything that we were hoping and praying her big brother would do. I'm just so excited to think my brother and his partner will have their little bubba home soon and that they will get to be parents and live the life they have dreamed of.

My niece is 1 month old today!!
