    Chocolate is fine!

It is not unusual for your milk to not be in yet, keep up the lots of skin cuddles and sleep when you can.

    take care

Oh DD you sound like you're under so much pressure. Lots of babies lose a bit more than 10% and taking more than a few days for the milk to come in is not that unusual.

I have to run - but is she pooing? That's the best sign of input at the moment.
And I really hope you can get some good help from teh LC about the pain. It suggests the latch/positioning is not right or perhaps there's somethign else going on that needs fixing.

Please try and relax hun. You wont have a low supply, it just takes time to come....

Your hospital is ****ing me off.. i wish they would just leave you be.

Those tablets take about a week to work.. you will have your milk in by then. Im worried that if you start taking them and then your milk comes in you will have major oversupply and end up with mastitis.. Try and hold off on them until your milk comes in yeah??

    how are you doin today?

Well, we got discharged with a feeding plan.. And hadn't been getting anything while expressing.
And now, I'm home and have had a shower, I'm starting to leak! I couldn't be happier Gonna feed in an hour and then express and do the cycle that we (myself and the LC) talked about. Dunno if I can wait for an hour though, boobs are killing me!

I dunno if I'll be exclusively BFing though. Our plan involved BFing and expressing and I quite like the idea of expressing and getting DH helping out and feeding her too. He wants me to exclusively BF, but I made mention to him that although she'd be feeding from a bottle, shes getting what came from me.
I just don't wanna face the same issues I had with Master W which meant I had to stop feeding @ 6wks and I feel expressing will be the way I stop that past issue.

That's great progress hun. Good on you Having full boobs will give you the confidence that you can do this - because you can hun.

How did you go with waiting an hour? When you are feeling full it's a good idea to feed or at least express at least enough until you feel comfortable. The last thing you want now is any other problems like blocked ducts or mastitis. Also, when your breasts are full, it can be harder for a young baby to attach. If this happens there are some things you can do - either express first before attaching, just enough to soften the breast a little, or something called Reverse Pressure Softening. If you want to know more about that you can call the ABA helpline 1800 mum 2 mum (1800 686 2 686, drop the last digit for VOIP).

How did you go last night hun?

    that's awesome!!!

DH fed DS for at one feed of EBM a day from the day he was born - it really seemed to help DS to be fine with being fed by boob, syringe, cup, bottle, etc - and has been wonderful for DH and DS's relationship. They fed skin-to-skin initially too, which was lovely.

And it meant that I could get one really good rest a day - I would still express of course, but DH would bring the pump and cups, and then clean them etc so I could just pump and then go back to sleep, and basically get 6-7 hours almost unbroken (as DS was a reeeeeeeeeeeeally slow feeder initially!!).

It made everything else that much better, with at least one sleep, and DH loved doing that feed, too. Special daddy-son/daddy-daughter time

that sounds great - sometimes being home & relaxing is what you need

i definitely had problems getting DS to attach when my breasts were full at the start so i'd definitely second getting them to feed (or expressing) if you're feeling pain or really full. there's nothing wrong with offering lots of feeds at this stage

hope today is another good one for you

    Thanks all

I'll be back a bit later once I've jumped online, gotta finish the paperwork and take it in.
Managed to express a tiny bit in the shower, the warmth seemed to help a lot, so I'm thinking of a warm flannel on the side I'll be feeding from just before she goes on, so she's on for a bit longer.

She's only ever on for not much more than 15 minutes. But she's getting something still at least!

And my manual pump is broken I found it before she was born and it's missing a part and I can't use it. I hand expressed bout 5 or 10mls but that's it.
Boobs are really sore now - and the initial attachment hurts like buggery, but once she's on and had a couple of sucks (first few sucks hurt heaps too), it's ok.

Ok, definitely will be back later

Your doing a great job. Your boobs will settle down. Mine hurt for a couple weeks

Only being on for 15 minutes, sounds like shes a good little efficent feeder!!

If the pain disappears after the initial attachment that's a good sign that you're doing well. Hopefully with a bit more time that pain will also disappear.
If you need to pump, you can hire from your local ABA group or some chemists I think? Otherwise you can simply offer her the breast again for top ups.
