Anti-imflammatory drugs and BF - can I take them?

I have a nasty thumb/wrist injury and while it is strapped up I'm in quite a bit of pain and its slightly dislocating due to the joint inflammation.

Are there any contraindications for taking anti-inflammatories when BFing?

Any recommendations on which brand would be best?

I *think* it would be ok at this age, but you could try calling the number in this thread.

I was given voltaren at the hospital after the birth. and was told it was ok whilst breastfeeding, but dr google says not, so maybe ring one of the drug info places

When I had mastitis I was told to take volatren and panadeine whilst still breast feeding. If in doubt can you contact your OB or midwife for some advice?

yup this is what i was told
i was taking the voltaren 25 after c/s, but the ob told me not to tell the pharmacist i was still BF as they won't dispense them!
as someone with a wrist problem too, i have, at times, taken the anti inflamms - my wrist dislocates regularly, strapping makes the pain more intense, so i have to get the inflammation down asap so i can unstrap it or it cripples me (and not having one of your hands with a little tacker, esp when BF and needing to hold bub, is damn hard!)

Thanks for the info everyone, so far with physio & rest I have avoided the AIs.

BW got the gel you recommended & it works well wrapped in glad wrap overnight.

I've never thought to use glad wrap! I just slather it on and stick a bandage over it and it works wonders. Covering it does help it absorb faster and increase the amount of the drug in the joint.
