Minny does milk supy boost in a day? if so I guess I'm due for a boost too
Last night little man was so in need of mum feed from 11.20 till 2am! on and off.
We had a horror day Nurse visit then off to the hospital to check lump on collar bone and it was broken in delivery. Poor little man but it will heal with no intervention in 3 months (clever babies) No pain either which is great.
Funny how things out of the normal really unsettle babies. I was going to go shopping at Big W today for cheap nappies but too tired to drive and just want to settle my little man.
Trying to stay awake till 11.30 for next feed then ZZZZZZZZZZZZ
We are still going strong on the BF front. Leah is still a champion feeder and is getting bigger on it. She has reached distraction sage though which is getting rather annoying because will trigger a let-down then the other 2 will make a noise and she will look around, making milk pour everywhere, while showing me off to whoever is nearby. She will reach 8 months on Monday and I can't see the end yet.
While we were on holidays Mum and Dad babysat while we went out with my cousin and her DF. We were out for a fair while and Leah got thirsty, so Mum made up a bottle of formula and Leah flatly refused it and went to sleep until we got back, and then had a huge feed. So she still has only had BF for drinks (and a couple of sips of water that she wasn't too impressed with) and enjoys feeding herself solids.
DD was in hospital Thursday. She came down with high temps, not eating, some vomiting, diarrhoea, not drinking much all on tues evening and weds was not any better so saw a GP who diagnosed viral infection. Weds night we had another bad night waking every hour and very unsettled, waking in pain etc so thurs morning i decided it was time to take her to hospital after about 36hrs of high temps and her body was so hot to touch all the time. I took her in and she had IV fluids for 8hrs and we were there from 10am until about 9pm at night. a loooong day. Poor bub had to get the needle in her arm and it took 2 goes she was screaming so much it was awful. they had to wrap her in a blanket so she couldnt move and kick while the needle went in. it was more the fact they were holding her down than the pain i think that upset her...... i felt so helpless watching!
Blood tests, urine and chest xrays showed nothing..... thought maybe it was a UTI but nope. They talked about putting a needle in her back to check for meningitis and im like "are u kidding! no way!!!"..... apparently its excruciatingly painful so im glad i said no to that.
so yeah came home thurs night had had enough and had to go back friday arvo to get canula (?) out of her arm as she didnt need a drip anymore. they kept it in just incase she did if she went down hill again. she was glad to get that out!
so yeah its been a big week for us here..... she's got a rash now but i think its part of the virus so just keeping her at home and watching her.
Breastfed DD every time she cried in hospital, it was such a big comfort to her. I am so grateful for breastfeeding!!!!!!!!!
TK - well done on 6mths!! It's a great feeling isn't it. How's your ABA training going? I've been finding it hard to get time to study lately but am getting there.....!!
Minny - welcome and great to hear BF journey is going so well! Good on you. I found laying down helped us alot too! Especially at one stage as DD would only feed lying down!!! (but we had lots of breast refusal initially etc)..... so much more relaxing for us mum's isnt it.
well BF journey number 3 for me getting pretty boring at it lol. my SIL always says that im a freak and i could prob, feed while doing dishes and drinking a coffee lol lets say i have a habbit of cleaning etc while william is having a snack.
Shanti - Im so sorry to hear about bubs being sick My DD had a viral infection and i had to watch them put a canula in and also a cathater inserted to get clean urine its HORRIBLE watching so when william had to go under the lights and they inserted a canula for blood test etc i walked away! i just couldnt watch it again, he was fine and didnt even cry. I felt REALLY bad for walking out but i was a mess.
Shanti - haven't started my training yet - have (finally) got all my papers together and have to send them off and then it will be training started. I have completed a Cert IV in Assessment & Workplace Training previously so we are applying for RPL... it may get down to completion in 12 or so months. Hope DD is better soon... hospitals are very scary places.
DD and I have been slow starters to BLS... I give her tastes here and there but am having troubles letting go of not being her only source of food I have recently been diagnosed with PND and am on meds so I am hoping I can work through some of my insecurities about her having other things other than BM.
I expressed a lump out of both sides today - DD wasn't interested in feeding for long enough to get all of the lump out and from both sides I expressed 190ml - thought that was a pretty good effort.
DP tried to give DD some of the EBM later on and she looked interested like she knew the smell and flavour but confused by the bottle teat (we were using an Avent bottle that I got as a shower gift). So we then syringed some of it into her and she didn't much like that either.
tk what an effort. Well done. my little man must remember the finger feeds cos he'll take my finger over dummy.
shanti hope dd is better
alioop well done on 8 months
well now I think I have too much milk, poor DS has the worst wind, it's killing me to see him screaming. DH and I are at our wits end. I've got him in the sling now just trying to let him sleep. Two huge feeds since 7.15 with only an hour asleep in his bed and another hour in the sling. NOT GOOD.
Also do babies dream? DS twitches and makes a bird like giggle sometimes it's pretty cool.
Any wind and BF suggestions welcome. I'm so helpless at the moment.
Harleysgirl - im still trying to figure out how to feed on the run, i have a sling but its not real flash...looking into a ring sling that will hopefully help with that.
tk1999- sorry bout the pnd hopefully you are able to work through whatever insecurities you have
Greenslw - Seb has bad wind as well, we have been using infants friend and some gripe water...seems to help for the most part, i also make sure before its bed time at night he has a bath and massage(infants friend) then boob and bed seems to work well as most times hes wind isnt to bad.
Dainey - congrats on 19 months i hope to get that far
AFM - Seb seems to be going through his 6 week growth spurt! My boobs are so sore from the frequent feeding and last night was the worst night we have had since he got home ( guess thats not to bad) hopefully it will settle down soon!
Inertia: Congratulations on reaching 7 months - well done!
Greenslw: That's terrible about the broken collar bone - but good news that your bub isn't in pain because of it. Sorry, no ideas about wind. My DS has never had big wind problems, but when he was a newborn I sometime would sit him upright, maybe jiggle him a little on my knee - and usually if he needed to burp he would.
Alioops: Nice to see you back Glad all is well.
Shanti: Oh, that sounds awful. Your poor DD, and poor you! I hope she's doing better. How lucky that she had you and b/f there to calm and comfort her.
TK: Well done on reaching 6 months!
Harleysgirl: You champ!!!
daiany: Welcome, and well done on reaching 19 months!
Minny: Hang in there - those growth spurts are hard work, but they do pass.
AFM: Well, we reached 12 months of breastfeeding 2 days ago!!! I can't believe we've really been going that long - cause to me it really doesn't seem long at all. I guess b/f has just become such a normal part of my everyday life that I don't think much of it.
I feel so lucky to have not come across many problems (well, apart from b/f with nipple shields full time). I've never had to give DS any formula (TBH I wouldn't even know how to prepare a bottle). I plan to keep going for as long as DS wants me (which I'm hoping is at least to 2 years) - but we'll see how we go!
I have noticed that DS has dropped a lot of feeds recently though. Usually I still offer every 3-4 hours, but I'm noticing he's feeding for less, or losing interest a lot more quickly. If I don't offer he doesn't seem fussed either. Yesterday was his birthday party, and it was all pretty full on. I was busy, DS was having a ball playing with new toys and eating party food (healthy party food) - and before I knew it 6 hours had passed without me giving him a breastfeed. But he didn't care - he never asked for it, and when I offered a feed he wasn't desperate for it. I know we're still a long way off weaning (especially the night feeds ), but it's still so sad that he doesn't want feeds as much as he once did. *sigh* It's just another sign that he's really not a little baby anymore - that along with the fact that he started walking yesterday (not just a couple of steps - full on walking - 28 steps is his record ).
So, here's to the next 12 months of breastfeeding for me and DS .
sterla - congrats on 12 months! and minny - congrats on 6 weeks! You girls are awesome
Our feeding is still going well, although at times I do look forward to when she starts spacing them out a bit more! Although, it's not too bad because she does a good stretch from about 9:30pm at night to anywhere between 1 and 4 in the morning. Then it's roughly 2 hours during the day and a big cluster sesh in the early evening.
We had our 6 week check ups this week and she's put on 680 grams in 3.5 weeks!
Thank you Sterla, and well done on 12 months!!! I am hoping to make that milestone myself. I don't have log to go now in the grand scheme and Phoebe is determined not to let go of it herself so with some luck we will make the distance. I also havent had to use any motillium for a month!!!!! Thank god for solids, LOL!
I am exhausted though. She still spends most of the day feeding and we are just scraping through on 100g weight gain a week... Having her afternoon nanna nap at the moment so free for an hour... Its so weird though - for such a natural process it is such a lot of work to keep going. O.o
Minny are you using something on your boobs? I've been using paw paw cream and it seams to help.
sterla well done on 12 months that's incredable.
Eluned I hear you about the spacing them out. I wonder when that happens. Great weight gain too
Bending Reality it gets easier.
ATM Little man is still a bit unsettled with a bladder infection added to his list of issues. He's on antibiotics and a new colic medicine which is rubarb and soda which is working well, he's getting alot of pain when he wees so some panadol too. But he's sleeping without me holding him it continues and only gets better.
I have been really thinking the last couple of days how lucky I am that I am BF DS. If I wasn't I'm not sure how I'd sooth him when he's so sad.
Had a few awake moments yesterday which is just wonderful
Oh no Shanti, that must have been awful. I'm so glad that she's ok now.
Greenslw, glad to hear that the unsettledness is improving. If it's related to oversupply, it will generally improve after the first few weeks. There are things that can help in the meantime too. Depending on whether it's oversupply or fast flow or both the strategies are a bit different, so if you'd like some tips, let me know some more details of what's going on. Or you can call 1800 mum 2 mum (1800 686 2 686) at any time and they can talk you through it also.
Huge congrats on your milestones Minny and Sterla. Woo hoo!!
Bubs is unsettled again. and I'm getting sick of not knowing is it me and what I've eaten, is it his medication? or what?
It is so heart breaking to see my little man unsettled again, not wanting to sleep, having a huge amount of wind (farts) that is waking him up. I don't know if I'm being over dramatic due to the horror of last week but
I even had a look at soy formula today and though "maybe I should just try" It's so hard to know what to do.
He will settle in the sling and then sleep in pram if I move it when he stirs, which means no sleep for mum.
DH had him for three hours after his 6.30pm feed and let me sleep which is good cos otherwise I'd be a mess. But this is not life.
I also miss food/drink. No coffee not chocolate no wine (which is ok but I still miss it) I know I did all of this while pg but common I was hoping an occasional coffee or chocolate would be ok. Also I can't eat cheese or drink milk life is getting annoying.
Which leads me to my moment. I know bf is natural and best but when is it time to throw in the towl and make things easier?
