Oh damn! That really sucks (sorry for pun).
It's a tough situation m2boys. All the best making your decision. Would doing a mixture of the two help?

Mumof2boys, I'm so bummed for you, but at the same time I am SO glad you have an answer now. This explains it all. I cant believe you made it so far, HUGE well done to you!!!!! Do not stress yourself out anymore, if its just too painful feed her ebm or just use formula. Honestly, do what is going to make you happy. You have ignored your pain to put your baby first for four months now, that is a huge achievement. Be so proud of yourself.

Is anyone feeding a 17+ month old? How long are they feeding for?
I had weaned DS1 by this stage so i have no comparison, but DS2 feeds 3 or 4 times a day and he wants to feed for HOURS! Well, it seems like hours. I often find myself detaching him myself because it is becoming very uncomfortable. I guess it's normal, but it's a becoming a bit of a bind.
I'm still feeding DS at nearly 23 mths. He's dropped the day feeds (unless it's the weekend when I'm home and he might have one to go to sleep during the day - not always though). We currently still have about 3 - 4 feeds in 24hrs. One roughly when I get home (sometimes this gets missed); one when going to bed if I'm home (this one can take a while; up to 45min to settle for bed. It's an on, off, on, off. swap sides, sort of thing) and one or two overnight of anywhere between 10 - 30 min (with the occasional longer one where I've fallen asleep in the glider while feeding). Often there's also an early morning one (or it's the second one but it's anywhere between 5:30-7:00am and that can be anywhere between 1hr and 10min (depending on when I'm getting up or get fed up with DS's latching and swapping sides)

Yeah I was pretty bummed. I think at this point I am just going to take the pressure off myself. Feed her as much as I can but allow myself to give her a bottle of ebm or even formula on the times when its just too much.

I have been working recently, and DD stays with DH for around 9 hours. She drinks water and will eat solids during the day. Breakfast is cereal with cows milk. She always has water available and we actively push her to drink.

When i get home from work i have noticed a smell that she has, and i thought that it was because DH sometimes gives her meat when he is home (Bunnings run and they share a sausage). I don't give DD meat very often during the day, and never red meat (cos i don't eat it).

We went out last night and she only had one BF. She had a big one when we got home and a couple overnight. This morning she has the smell again. Could it be a dehydration smell? DD didn't have meat last night.

I don't know - my DS gets horrible breath when he has an impending cold.
I would be looking at nappies and activity levels to determine hydration, rather than smelly breath.
Also - if she's having less BM then she's getting less "antibacterial mouth-wash" too - do you need to ramp up teeth cleaning?

it's not her breath that smells, it's her skin, like it's coming from her pores. DH just did a nappy change and said she has smelly wees again, so it could be related.

it's hard to get her to drink as much as she needs to without breastfeeding. thinking i might have to get gastrolyte icy poles or something for work days.

Would she go for ice-cubes in her drink?
    Or even frozen yoghurt icy-pole-thingies?

Me and bub have thrush... again. I could just cry. Feeding is even more painful now. After battling with thrush for about 9 weeks I finally thought we'd seen the end of it. Obviously not.

Thats so tough You are an amazingly strong person, putting up with all these struggles to give your daughter the very best. You are simply amazing.

mumof2boys...I have been battling thrush since before Easter, so I hear you! I am currently on oral Nilstat, second course and still have pain. I am seeing a thrush specialist at the RWH on Friday. Have you been taking oral medication as well as using the gel? It so completely and utterly sucks. I am also on the anti-candida diet, which is starting to help (after 3 weeks). I havew constant pain in my back and breasts, although feeding has improved.

Hang in there. I am thinking of you.

Great news Mrs NB. No pain!

Thanks to everyone who answered me. I did a post, but now i see it's not there. D'oh. Maybe i did it in my dreams??

I have decided that DS2 wants cuddles, and that he shall have! Until it hurts - and then i'll have to offer non-bf cuddles. Feeding a toddler doesn't carry half the guilt associated with feeding a little bub...phew!
