Never be ashamed!!!!! Be proud you are nourishing your baby in the way god created!!!!!!!

My MIL asked when DS1 was 5 months old when I was stopping feeding I turned around and said 7 years!!!
She does not know he is still feeding over the age of 2 as DH is funny about it! No idea why, he regularly asks when I will stop feeding DS1.

My SIL is supportive of it and has no issue and I am comfortable with this.

    Good for you- be proud!!

If anyone asked me if I was still BFing my son when he was under one I used to say matter-of-factly "Yes, babies can't start drinking cow's milk till they are one". No-one ever mentioned formula

After that if anyone asked I would say things like "I'm hoping to make it to at least 2" or "I guess I'll just feed till he doesn't want it anymore "

I totally understand you! People lately have been asking me how long i fed DD for (probably as i am BFing DS) and i end up telling them less time than it really was, whilst making excuses about why i did it for so much longer than everyone else and then kind of quickly change the subject. When in reality, i am extremely proud to have BF'd until she self weaned.

Same thing goes with my VBAC, in reality i would class it as one of my biggest achievements in life but when people ask me about it i make small jokes about how i don't know why i was so desperate to do it, how i ended up with more stitches than a c-section and am not really sure i would do it again!

WTF! I solemnly swear to be proud of myself from now on and tell everyone who asks the truth

    Good on you!!!!

You know the other day I was saying to DH that I feel really uncomfortable feeding DD2 when Im with my mother group. Why? Because is the only one who is breasfed. During the last meetup I went to, a lot of the babies, all at different ages, newborn to 15 months, started needing a fed. So one by one all the mums started getting ready. Bottles came out, then formula, followed by the bottle shake and shimmy.

Whilst this was happening, I just made myself comfortable, and fed DD. During this I noticed that one by one each mum looked at me with this look of are you still bfeeding? I really felt like they were judging me for feeding my baby by breast, yet I try really hard not to judge them for the decisions they make. After all its none of my business so why on earth do they feel the need to judge me for doing it differently!

When someone asks "when are you going to stop breastfeeding?" imagine they'd asked "when are you going to buy an elephant" and give them a look of disbelief as if its the most bizarre question ever asked and say "he's only x months" or "why would I want to buy formula when I can bf", "I really want to breastfeed DS until he is two, how the WHO recommends" or whatever you want to say. Puts the shoe on the other foot.

I can so relate to the reaction to the sound of the bra clip. Love it!

That's right darl hold your head high with pride!!! Keep feeding your boy until you and him are ready to stop. My little man has only just weaned in the last few days (15 months) and people were giving me the weirdest looks like I was doing something wrong b/f a toddler and I was always asked. Intially I would just say until he didn't want it but as it got older and I got sick of people asking me I told I was planning to feed until his wedding night!! I had already organised work so I could feed him at recess and lunch when he starts school. It shut them up real quick because they didn't know if I was joking or not, LOL!!
Keep up the great work darl and keep enjoying every feed becasue it is just amazing!!

Aww thats sad that you feel ashamed to tell people you plan to BF for at least 2 years. Be proud. He is only a baby at 8 months.. You will get there. Be proud & show those around you that it is normal. Do you come from a family of FFing? Is the general community not big on BFing?
Be a trend setter. Good on you for not feeling like you should change to FF because of those around you.

My midwife got the impression that I was still feeing my 8 yr old at my last appointment. LOL She was very polite about it. I had said that I had been BFing since #1 was born (being preg with #5) & she said Oh so does he still feed? Refering to the 8 yr old. I just laughed & said. No he stopped around 2, I just keep having babies LOL. But YES I am still feeing my 2 yr old.

it's a shame the people around you feel the need to comment on how you feed as I am sure you wouldn't say anything about the way they feed.

It is going to take some practice being proud to breastfeed and I know this may sound silly but do practice saying it to a mirror so next time you will believe what you are saying I remember being asked, when DS was little, when I was going to wean and when I mentioned the WHO guidelines of 2 years I was asked if I was going to be one those woman who feed until thier child goes to school. I was taken aback to be honest I didn't realise it would cause such controversy how I chose to feed my child. I think I too mumbled something along the lines of when he wants to stop feeding but it certainly wasn't very confidently.

Then I came up with some lines so that I was ready should someone ask. My favourite line is "why do you think another animal can produce better milk then me?" most people don't have an answer for that and it covers you after they are 1 too

I loved reading how much your DS loves his 'booby' and reminded me soo much of my DS at that age awwww

Yeddi I think it's fantastic that you are giving your DD milk despite being older and I don't see how it's going to harm her in fact I think it would be better then cow's milk any day well done

beansbeans I wonder if they were a little jealous that it was soo easy for you to feed your LO, no bottles, no mixing, no sterilising.

We are the trend setters and we are normalising bf again so to each and every one of you who breastfeed for as little or long as you do well done and congragulations to you all

teagz - I think you're fabulous, and doing so well for your boy. How ironic that people feel the need to make you feel awkward, for doing what you think is best?!

I wonder what inspires people to cut parents down for doing what's best, and how it's become almost unusual to breastfeed babies as long as they need ...

Even today - I took my DS for his injections, and afterwards he was upset and so I breastfed him, both to give him some comfort, and also because it was getting close to lunchtime ... and I got looks from everyone! mothers, fathers, even the nurses giving the injections ... why was I the odd one out? The room was full of crying little people, most comforting their children, but some parents just leaving their LOs to cry in prams or on laps ... and yet it was me, BF my 4 month old (discretely) who was getting dirty looks ... why?

I love some of the responses suggested as to when you plan on breastfeeding - "until another creature makes milk better designed for him!" sounds great ... "at least until he's 2, as per the World Health Organisation recommendations!" is another.

I hope you get some great, positive responses, and that you help people to better understand how wonderful breastfeeding is, when it's possible for the mum and bub

    thanks so much guys! I didn't think I'd get such a response from my litter tantrum ^^;

EfJay, My mum BF me until I was 15 months, my SIL BF all her children, so did my MIL and my other SIL. All my aunties are for BFing - except for one, but she was greatly influenced by my nana, who doesn't beleive in BF. Funnily enough I can handle her tho and I enjoy running it in her face a little. XD In my MG there is 3 of us out of about 10 that are still Ex. BFing. Today there other two weren't there and I got a bit cornered, I think

You girls have all made my night. Thank you
