Fast Flow Bottle

Hi Ladies

DD often has bottles of EBM if I am out. After a recommendation from my SIL, I bought the Happy Baby bottles which are variable flow. However, DD takes about half an hour to drink 100mls. Last night DH had had enough after she'd only drunk 10mls in about 10 minutes and changed the bottle to one of the Avent ones with a number 2 teat. She then finished her bottle in 10 minutes.

So after that long winded intro, what I'd like to know is what are some of the best fast flow bottles available?

I used the Avent ones and just changed teats to suit my DD preference. When she was younger we gave her slower flowing teats and then as she got older we switched to faster flowing ones. I don't think the bottle change the flow, just the teats

I was told that Dr Brown's ones were fantastic he has a fast flow also and he has BPA free bottles, and helps with colic and reflux too hope that helps

The slower flow is often better for bfing babies as it encourages them to work harder for the milk, same as they would on the breast. The faster flowing teats tend to 'pour' the milk into baby's mouth, giving them not much option but to swallow quickly! If you are still bfing it's probably better she has to work harder for the EBM in the bottle so that she doesn't get frustrated back on the breast. How long does she take to finish a bf? You might be able to find a happy medium that seems to take her about the same time as a normal bf.

Jennifer - thanks for your help once again, u must be sick of my bf questions by now DDs time at the breast varies. Generally her first and last feeds of the day take about 30-40 mins, and during the day about 15-20 minutes (there's so much to see and do!). I had a quick look at some teats whilst I was in Target yesterday, and on the Avent ones, it actually only recommends the number 1 and 2 teats for breastfed babies, so that is in line with what you are saying about how quickly they get the milk. I dont want her to like the bottle more than my boobies, so I will stick with what I've got for now.

My goodness, Manhattan - you should have seen some of the qns I had to ask! After 4 years, I've covered a lot of ground. I still had questions at 2 years!

Now you just have to teach your DH to be more patient when it takes longer to feed your DD at the bottle. I recommend the remote control and a comfy chair!
