Feeding lying down - how does it work for you?

At night (like now) DD cluster feeds a lot til going to sleep. She's basically on the boob for couple of hours. She'll fall off asleep, then wake up a bit a minute later and have more. So I take her to bed, I can be comfy lying down and watch tv, and she can take as long as she likes

My problem is, I can really only feed her from one side like this, she can only reach the bottom boob. And you know what, I keep picturing that Miranda Kerr pic, and I reckon it looks like she's feeding him from the top boob and I just keep thinking how does it reach down there? Maybe mine are too small!

So anyway, to swap I end up rolling over and putting her on the other side, and this wakes her up more. Has anyone got any tips for me?

rolling over works too. How do you lie/where is baby when you feed?
I roll forward & bring the top arm up onto the pillow with the other one (above DD's head) and she can reach the top breast that way.

I have her lying on her side, in really close. She doesn't feed properly if she's on her back with her head turned, and so I have my arm under her head like a pillow for her, so I'm supporting her head and back.

That's probably why I can't get the top one down, I'm kind of stuck by where my arm is.

practice with positions... just thinking how we did it. I kind of rolled onto my tummy so it was lower and the top knee/leg rolled over so that it touched the bed. Hope that made sense :$

I could never get them to feed from the top boob and had to roll over to do it that way, having said that I didn't feed lying down very often because I found it hard to get them to attach and stay attached, much easier to lie back propped up with loads of pillows for me!

I only ever feed from the top breast laying down! I kind of lay on my side but go a little further over towards my tummy and have DS laying on his side and my arm cradled behind him which props him up enough to reach.

Ah! I used to feed that way but much easier with my underside arm up above her head. It's actually more comfortable that way to feed from teh top side. You could probably try using a pillow or something to prop her up, or even the top arm? I really find it better this way as you can disengage from them without disturbing them.

I have bub on back with head turned then offer fullest boob. Top one he reaches by me rolling further over, sort of squashing the bottom boob. My arm is always above his head.

I got a blocked duct in the squashed boob from falling asleep while feeding from the top boob, so watch that.

Ahhh...I miss the days of looooong feed sessions on the bed. Poor ds has to take it when he can...but he feeds all night to make up for it...and I love that I can give that to him.

I reckon I might have to get her comfy without my arm under her head - it goes dead after a bit anyway so will be good for both of us lol.

Really couldn't get her on the top one tonight with my arm under her head, because I can't roll over/forward enough. I reckon I'll try it your way tomorrow MadB Thanks for the advice everyone

I have my arm above her head (not under) and around onto her shoulder, she's on her side and so am i.
Where possible i lay in the middle of the bed, i tend to just kind of hop over her and gently roll her over and offer the next side.
    She very rarely wakes now

Wow, i didn't know so many people fed from the top boob! I love feeding lying down but am only a bottom boob feeder I used to do my arm under bubs head, but now do the arm above her head stretched out, maybe its cos bub is bigger now? If bub is still very awake i will move her to swap sides, but other wise i try to change sides and just slide her gently if i need to. mmm, i wonder if i could become a top boob feeder too

Yeah, I do the same, just roll forward a bit and flop my boob down, LOL. Maybe you need floppy boobs, don't worry, they'll get there

I did much the same as MadB - I lay DD alongside me and fed first from the bottom boob with my underside arm on (or under) my pillow and the other one just resting on the side of my body facing up (towards the ceiling). I never cradled her head but she was old enough to turn and support her own head well by the time I mastered the technique. When DD needed the other side, I rolled slightly onto my tummy and moved the top arm (which had been resting on my side) so it went between my chin and boob, ITMS.
I could generally go back to sleep easily like that.

It did take us a while to get the hang of it though. I reckon DD was 6 months old or so.

I roll over too. Although there has been occasions where the top boob was escaping from my bra, I reach over the top of the baby to get my glass of water and *chomp* and I end up stuck in some weird position for 5 minutes lol
