    Fenugreek to improve milk supply????

My 2 sisters advised me to try Fenugreek cause they know how much i really want to BF Lilli when she arrives. I googled it & it 'seamed' ok but wanted to check in here 1st because I value & trust the BB community way more then Dr Google IYKWIM!

All info would be so helpful cause I really have my heart set on sucess this time round!

Fenugreek is good for increasing milk supply! BUT can upset mummy and baby tummy and makes wee smell like curry!

I had to stop taking that due to bloating and belly upset.

Blessed thistle and Alfala tabs work wonders fro milk supply! I took from DS1 being 6 weeks old till 9 months (as stopped taking them as was preg)

I hope they help can also buy a tea in health food shops for increasing milk supply.

It worked for me and a close friend if mine BUT we were both using Motillium as well so I can't be 100% sure which one worked best.

The fenugreek went down fine though and there were no side effects. Have you looked at the lactation cookies too?

    Thanks for your replies ladies,
I think I will give them a go, do I wait till bub it born or do you start before hand? I hope it doesn't make me feel sick! I can handle throwing up & most other things but I can't handle that sick feeling. I guess I wont know if I don't give it a go. I know my sisters didn't have any problems with it in that regard.

I used it and it helped No side affects other then being a little smelly lol.
Do you mean it was a bit smelly or it made you smelly? I know mum used to take something & it made her have an odour... I don't want that!

No, I totally forgot about the cookies! I have heard about them but havn't tried them, know what is in them (yeast?) or have had a recipe for them. Can I eat them before bub it here or do I have to wait? I'll have to try to find a recipe & take a batch to hossi with me.

I used Fenugreek capsules purchased from a health store. I didn't have any side effects (that I noticed and DH's pretty good at telling me when I smell ). The increase in milk was fairly quick too so in my experience I would say wait until you need them.

I'd probably be more inclined to wait until your milk has come in to start taking or eating anything. Simply feeding your little one - frequently - is the best thing you can do. My DD was a very sleepy newborn, a slow feeder and poor sucker (makes her sound dismal, doesn't it, LOL!) and I had flat nipples so all of that put together caused our BF issues. Knowing what I know now, I think I'll take Fenugreek the day after my milk has come in. My boobs were painful enough (and big enough for that matter!) last time without adding anything extra to the mix

With regards to the lactation cookies, here's the link to the recipe Lactation Cookies Recipe - Increase Breastmilk Supply
