I may have said quite vocally that I would bf DD only until she could ask for it with words (after all, if she can eat a steak, what does she need bm for?)!

Turns out I was very happy to follow her lead. I adapted her bfing pattern as a toddler to suit my lifestyle (I was working and night feeds were not helping!), but she kept going. She was a committed bfer until almost four. In the end, she missed a few days bfing and I slightly adapted our routine to make it easier not to bf anymore. I was ready as well!

I guess it's like all parenting things though, you have ideas about what you will or won't do and find yourself adjusting these with what works for you and your child.

I think we'll probably go until 18-24 months. It'll just depend on DD when she wants to stop, or when DH says "that's enough"! LOL He has this thing about toddlers being BF, but I think it will be different when it is our own. We'll just see what happens.

With my first I was trying to wind it back to just night feeds when I came off maternity leave - she was about 7 months old and I did night feeds until she was 9 months. By this point I was insanely underweight and couldn't have continued longer if I wanted to. I couldn't even find clothes to fit in the shops.

With my second I just said "until she gets teeth". She self-weaned before then - 14 months. I was in a happier place for her and didn't lose so much weight. I'd hope to do much the same with the next baby, it saves a fortune on bottles and formula.

Both sprouted teeth juuuuuust after I finished feeding them.
