Atm DS will throw up after EVER feed.
He is BF and i often feed laying down on the bed and straight after his feed he will projectile vomit.
If i feed him semi upright - and then i go to burp him he will throw up on my shoulder,
But he has lots of sopping wet nappies and is growing well weight wise.
Jacob was diagnosed with reflux at 5 weeks and put on meds for thsi as he was screaming with every chcuk. We stopped meds at about 14 weeks as was a fight to get into him and seemed to be much better pain wise.
He is still chucking heaps often large projectiles but is not distressed with it. Some days it looks like something from the exorcist.
Generally if they are putting on weight & in general are happy you shouldn't worry.
Brock projectile vomited pretty much every day til he was maybe 6 weeks old. My MCHN said it was common and not to worry about it unless he started to lose weight. He has continued to put on weight and bit by bit his chucking has improved.
I find that we keep Brock's wind under control by lots of tummy time. We line our floor with towels & down he goes & up come the burps.
If he is otherwise content I wouldn't worry too much. My DS was a happy chucker and I just got used to the soaking wet bibs and changing his clothes a million times a day. I couldn't believe how much would come out of him each time.
Does he bring any up later on between feeds or is it only just after when you burp him? If only after.. then its just coming up with the wind. If its later on and he looks to be in a bit of pain (eyes may water or go red) then it may be reflux.
DS was a big puker.. but was fine after about 1/2 an hour after his feed.
Whereas DD is a puker, but also would continue to bring up milk/saliva up until her next feed (and large amounts of it). She was also in pain when she brought it up.. would grizzle and her eyes would water and go red. She was then diagnosed with reflux and is on AR formula. But if this is also the case with you, your GP can prescribe some meds for reflux while breastfeeding.
Hi there PP, another one with a happy chucker!
Mj use to projectile a lot too, always before going out and we would have to do a full change! Both of us.
My CMHN told me that if they feed up hill (so lying on you with you semi upright) they have to work harder and are less likly to suck down wind.
I also found that if she started to get fussy at all, if i took her off and burped and then returned to feeding it would be a bit better. Also dont go straight up to your shoulder, can you slowly her up and purp her on your knee? When she is lying the wind or air can mix with the feed and by moving her suddenly it bubbles up quickly causing the massive spew as there is feed caught on top kwim?
Now that she is a older its a bit better, havent had a projectile for mths now, but there is a spew of sorts after each BF (sometimes mixed with solids.)
Now that she is crawling the dog follows her around and cleans up the evidence! lucky we have floorboards.
As the others have said, as long as there is weight gain, wet nappies and no screaming in pain when vomiting, try not to be concerned, it can be scary at times, i remember one time that she got frightened by it and tried to breath while spewing and suched it back in, awwww it was awful, poor little thing.
He only vomits after feed not other times. ANd sometimes it isnt even with burping.. ie i will not even move him and he vomits before i get a chance to burp him
I tried to give me gavison infant but he wont have a bar of it... let alone trying to get 15 ml down and saty down.
He is a belly sleeper and i put him down at 5pm and he is still sound asleep (which is amazing for him)... lets hope it doesnt mean he will be up all night.
Yeh sounds to me like hes just bringing it up with wind which is totally normal.. DS was like that. He out grew it once he started sitting up. Even though you may not notice him burp, thats what hes doing.. DD does the same.
I wouldnt bother with the Gaviscon.. i dont think it would really make much of a difference with just the wind.
