    Lactation Cookies.. question..

    Is it bad if I eat too many Or should I say is it possible to eat too many...

    Is there a minimum I should eat and a max I should eat??

    The first batch I made lasted only 3 days

    Oh another question... and this one probably seems a bit silly... but anyone can eat these right?

    My DP won't eat them cos I told him they were to help with my milk supply...

    It's one that was given to me on here...

    Housepoet's Famous Lactation Boosting Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip & Flaxseed cookies
    Serves: 6 dozen cookies
    Preparation time: 15 minutes

    Ingredients:
    * 1 cup butter or marg
    * 1 cup sugar
    * 1 cup brown sugar
    * 4 tablespoons water
    * 2 tablespoons flaxseed meal (can be found at any local health food store)
    * 2 large eggs
    * 1 teaspoon vanilla
    * 2 cups flour
    * 1 teaspoon baking soda
    * 1 teaspoon salt
    * 3 cups oats, thick cut if you can get them
    * 1 cup or more chocolate chips
    * 2 tablespoons of brewers yeast* (be generous) (IT MUST BE BREWERS YEAST, NO SUBSTITUTIONS)

    Directions:
    * Preheat oven at 375 degrees F.
    * Mix together 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal and water, set aside for 3-5 minutes.
    * Cream (beat well) margarine and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, mix well. Stir flaxseed mixture and add with vanilla to the margarine mix. Beat until blended.
    * Sift together dry ingredients, except oats and chips. Add to margarine mixture. Stir in oats then chips.
    * Scoop or drop onto baking sheet, preferably lined with parchment or silpat. The dough is a little crumbly, so it helps to use a scoop.
    * Bake 8-12 minutes, depending on size of cookies.

    I wouldn't think you can overdose... its all natural.. I'm sure I ate a whole batch in a few days too. I think DH had a few, but I probably didn't tell him too much about it

    Hi ladies,
    I swore by these when I was having supply issues with a hungry bubba about 18 months ago!
    The cookies are calorie laden unfortunately but in the short term i took the view i needed to do what i had to do to get the milk flowing!
    I dropped the choc chips and popped in dried fruit like apricots and they were nice enough.
    I found another way to limit my intake was to divide the mixture into say 3 or 4 rolls, freeze a couple of rolls of raw dough rolled up in plastic and only bake half of the mixture.
    They still had the same effect defrosted and baked as baked fresh. I also had some in reserve for short notice then too.
    Also someone ask where do you get brewers yeast - I found my local supermarkets did not stock it however my local health food store did. Apparently much cheaper to buy from the health food store!
    Good luck girls!
    Cheerio Belinda.

    Ohhhh, I am subscribing too just in case. They sound delicious.

    Glamourcide - I never lost weight when breast feeding my second DS. It bugged me because I didn't gain anything through my pregnancy that wasn't baby related, but put on weight whilst breast feeding him. I am keeping everything crossed that I don't get the same thing when Bumpty gets here.

    These sounds yummo....I had no idea this sort of stuff could really increase supply that much...?!?! I'm about to start expressing again, so this might be another trick!
    Thanks ladies...I love baking too (and eating.....)

    I'm having a wee bit of trouble keeping up with Tom's growth spurt so these might be the go for me. One thing though, does anyone know if the brewer's yeast is a problem for those who have a problem with thrush?

    hi there ladies.

    Just wondering if these cookies would be ok to eat before bubs is born??
    as my cousin's milk didn't come in with her first baby and baby lost nearly 20% of birth weight. She is now due to have no 2 anyday.

    thanks for your help.

    I don't see that it could hurt at all - it's worth a try! If it's any help to your cousin, I had the same problem with DD1 - I had a severe PPH and just didn't produce any milk. Second time around, I had no complications and my milk came in straight away, so just let her know she should be fine
    I have also heard that it's possibly to stimulate a milk supply before baby's birth, and these cookies are very inexpensive to make (I scored a huge bag of linseed/flaxseed meal for under $5 and it will last me for months!, and the brewer's yeast is about $1 a tbs so it's not cost-prohibitive), so if it doesn't work for her she won't be too out of pocket

    Wish her luck for me!!

    I probably wouldnt start them too early, I would suggest holding out as long as she can.

    I'm not exactly sure how these cookies work... but you dont want your milk coming in before bubs is born, bubs needs to get the colostrum.

    ~Sally~ makes a good point (although I've heard of women beginning to express and establish a milk supply well before 38 weeks so I don't know the actual logistics of milk vs colostrum supply, maybe the body only makes colostrum until baby is actually born, kwim?? Will have to research that one, I'm curious now). Maybe eating the cookies while pg will get her body started on making milk, but if she's not expressing it it will just be stored there until bub comes and starts suckling??
    But the cookies work pretty much instantaneously, I was squirting all over the place within a few hours of giving these cookies a go, so if you just hang out until your cousin goes into labour, then make up a batch and pop in to the hospital with them so she can get started soon after baby arrives??
