Lucinda is 10 months old and still breastfeeding (yay!) which makes her my longest breastfed bubba.
She has started on those Nuby soft teat sippy cups for water on the really warm days - she has had one for a while but has only shown interest recently. Whilst drinking, she will grab the teat between her top & bottom teeth and pull the cup away making a foonk noise. The problem with this is she now does this on my nipple when she has finished a feed. Most of the time I take her off myself but there are times where I forget. There is nothing worse than forgetting and relaxing whilst feeding to end up feeling as though your nipple has been ripped off by super sharp little teeth.
I have no idea how to stop her from doing this and fear this will be the thing that makes me wean her. She also does this when something distracts her. Any ideas how to stop this? I'm in pain and dreading her next feed
(Sent from my phone, so I apologise if it makes no sense.)
Both mine have done this. I have found feeding somewhere dark and quiet helps. Otherwise I try the aba advice for biting (say no and place baby on ground)
When DD2 would try and yank at my nipple when feeding I would squish her face into my breast, my aim was to make her a little uncomfortable like she was doing to me.The first time really surprised her. I only had to do it 2-3 times and she stopped, she decided it was not a fun game anymore.
I'd say no when she does it with the sippy cup also and take it off her, because to her she doesn't know the difference of doing something fun to something that hurts. Give it back to her though but take it off her every time she does it
wait poised with your little finger and pop her off at the first sign she's finished. If she does it, put her straight down. I found with DS I had to remove myself from hi (which he found upsetting) before he really 'got' that biting me was not on.
My DD also went through a stage of the bite & slide off - OUCH! It does really hurt. I did as above and she stopped after a little while. It will pass, but you need to be clear that it's not ok to do that (just setting boundaries).
I did the same as Madb. When ds bit I'd take him straight off, put him on the floor and leave. He learnt quick enough! Didn't like his boobies being taken away!
I'm setting the boundaries and putting my breast away to let her know it's not on. Finding a quiet place to feed is close to impossible with 8 people in the one house! Lol. I want so bad to make it to at least 2 years feeding her but it feel almost impossible to get to 12 months when she does this as I want to pack my boobs up so tightly so she can't get to them at times. We co sleep so she often just helps herself. Being woken to what feels like someone ripping my nipple off is a horrid experience.

Can you put any space between you in bed or extra clothing? It's ok to set extra boundaries for yourself, particularly if it means you can last longer that way
For what it's worth, they do go through these phases and they do pass
