I have come to the conclusion that it is something where you just need to follow your instincts. If you dont intend on doing BLS, then those guidelines wont really apply to you, just as if you do intend doing BLS, then you should probably wait till he is older. have a think about how you want to approach solids too, is there anything you would like to change from last time round?
At the end of the day, I don't really think it makes much of a difference to the child. In my 9 years as a Mum, I have seen the recommendations be for 4 months, then up to 6 months and now to 4-6 months. I started my first baby at 4 months and we never looked back, then the next two took a lot longer to get going on it, so we didn't rush it and with #4 I held off due to reflux and took it slow once we started and it was the best thing we ever did. out of the older 3, they all have wonderful diets, eat well and no fussiness at all and no adverse heatlh issues. #4 is still a typical toddler and lives on fresh air alone The research in this field is going to be changing all the time as they make new discoveries, so it is up to you whether you want to follow the current advice or just follow your instincts and both will be right Your little one is nearly 5 months old, so there may be no harm in trying them to see how he goes. You are a smart person so you know that BM is all he needs till he is 1 and that solids just supplements the milk. If he isn't interested, then there is no harm done by trying.
