What foods are most likely to cause....

    Wind in babies?

DD2 is 2.5 weeks old and we had two bad nights of very unsettled behaviour and lots of wind pain with her just three days ago. Since birth, DD2 has been a very placid, settled baby and really doesn't cry all that much! So you can imagine I was wondering where on earth my quiet little newborn had gone! The next morning Mum suggested I cut out caffeine and chocolate in my diet immediately. I stopped my chocolate () and no teas/coffees or coke for me. Since then, DD2 has been much happier of an evening and we've had really good nights where she wakes, feeds, burps, and back to sleep within an hour!

Now I have a feeling this is what upset DD1 too when she was a newborn, but I never made any conscious efforts back then to avoid certain foods, I figured it would all work itself out. Whereas this time around I'm more conscious of the foods I'm consuming and how it may/can affect DD2's behaviour.

Besides caffeine and chocolate, what foods have you found upset your bub?

I understand it's about trial and error and elimination to see what works and what doesn't..... my friend told me that her midwife told her to increase protein in her diet, so like chicken and eggs etc helps with settled babies too.....
    any other ideas? Advice?

    TIA

Onions, cauliflower and other 'windy' veg as well as dried fruit... Basically anything that gave me wind, would do the same for both DDs.
Caffeine was never an issue for me, nor was OJ, which other people have said upset their bubbas.

Eggs was an issue for DS. I could eat them, just not every day.
Also softdrinks. I midwife told me that one.

gripe water (the type without alcohol in it) really helped my bub in this situation.

i would syringe the gripe water dose in her mouth (she liked it so much, she licked the syringe LOL)
Her tummy would go "gurgle gurgle" very soon thereafter
    Then she would poop
Her shoulders would go down, she would literally go "ahhh" and burst into biggest smile
    issue over.

when i tried the gripe water (type with 1% alcohol in it), she would make a face like she'd sucked a bitter lemon and refuse to have it.

I found week 2-3 was when both my bubs started crying more. I definitely found less onion, garlic, cauliflower (Ie windy foods) helped...but then again, I know they grow out of it, so I wasn't very diligent.

At around 8 weeks ds stopped being so sensitive and I eat anything now.

As someone said, anything that gives me wind, gives DS2 wind. He's a terribly windy baby, and even now at 5 mths still has issues with wind pains if I eat the trigger foods.
The biggest culprits for us are dairy products (my kids tend to have a sensitivity to it until they're about 18mths and then they can have it without issues), beans/lentils, chocolate and caffinated drinks, onions, garlic, chilli, curry, cruciferous veggies (like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower), tomato based sauces (though not for long, about 8-ish weeks and then they could tolerate it better).

With Sam I had a works hamburger and I worked out that the pineapple and onion on it really upset him. So did oranges and other strong fruits (basically almost ever fruit other than apples bananas). That included fruit juice too. I found tea was ok but no coffee or dark choc. I also found cheese tended to cause a bit of grief too.
