In my right breast? I just tried expressing and couldn't get anywhere near the amount I usually do although I know my boob still has milk.
All down the side (say from nipple going around towards my back so side of boob) it feels really firm like it's full and has that full aching almost feeling bruised feel to it
So what's causing it to not express and not drain as such? That's usually my good boob!
Also when expressing how long are you supposed to do it for I know I have to do it every 3 hrs but nobody said how long each session should go for
Try having a warm shower or use a warm flannel and massaging til you can't feel the lump anymore. But inly gently. Or better yet hold something against the area that vibrates. It's important to keep the breast drained as well otherwise it could turn into mastitis, and that's no fun
You could also try feeding lying down (or expressing) so it drains naturally, ITMS?
I was told to feed for 20 mins each side, then top up with EBM, then express for 10 mins each side. But I had no supply, so that was more to stimulate? Give the ABA a call - 1800 - MUM2MUM
They have reclininers in the pumping room so you suggest sit on that and lie it down to pump?
Just had a shower and stood with the shower head constantly on the right boob it was leaking non stop when I got out so hopefully that's a good sign.
Got to go feed the boys and express now hopefully I get some relief
It does sound like you have blocked ducts. Use an icepck on the affected area after you feed to reduce the swelling. It's really important in these ealy days that you express at least every 3 hours - including during the night. But you don't have to wait for 3 hours. If you feel that your breast is uncomfortably full, then express there and then. You might want to get some antibiotics in case it progresses to mastitis (talk to midwife/docs about this) Express until your breasts are drained probably 10-15 mins each side. You may notice that your affected breast does not make as much milk as previously. This is only temporary, and soon you will be back to full production if you pump regularly. What sort of pump have you got? It is important to have a hospital grade hire pump like the symphony
I'm using the symphony Barb it's fantastic
After a shower with lots of warm water and massaging the breast it feels a lot better so I will keep on top of it
Jackson just got lots of milk from the breast although he's not attaching 100% as his mouth is very small and my nipples large but ive got some shields but the staff in here don't like them being used
