Since DD was born shes fully breast fed.
Weight gains are good, plenty of wet nappies (she can drench a nb spossie in 4hrs) ect but she poos once every 4-6 days lots of grunty farts inbetween but tonighy while changeing her nappy she poo'd and the first little bit was formed, but soft like a paste the rest liquardy like a #3 but i wondered if thats normal shes not too impressed by the whole pooing idea (gets very.grizzly right before it happens) she feeds every 3.5-4hrs during the day at night we cosleep so i wake once to change sides but im not sure how long each feed is
I guess i'm just trying to see if this is normal... I know DDs day feeds she gets two let downs per side and often had one and a half (lol) brests per feed.
This could be normal and im just finky after a DD is my only bub never to have had *any* formula at all or.a prolonged hospital stay...
Hi,
Usually, we expect to see 2-3 poos per day at this age. Paste is generally ok, so long as it's not at all hard/formed.
How often is she feeding in 24 hours? She alert/content when awake? Any other concerns with her?
The average range is 8-12 feeds in 24 hours. It may be that she's fine, but low poo output can be a common indicator of inadequate milk intake, so it may also be that she needs a little bit more (probably not much, if any). What do you reckon?
She'd have 9+ feeds in 24hrs shes alert and awake and when shes awake shes offered boob when she makes a noise she also has the rythmic swollowing (let down) twice on one boob then once on the other per feed. (thus the one and a half boobs) since birth shes poo'd every 2nd-3rd day - we avoided the mec poo as such. Due to when she was born she did an epic, epic poo after they weighed her... Three days later she did another big (3 nappies later) poo. She cluster feeds from 5pm - 7.30 every night. And then feeds again at 9.30 and final feed (as such) before bed is 1am and i leave the other side on offer and change between 3am and 4am.and she has another feed at 6.30 and another around 8. After that its when she starts sucking on her hand/grizzleing (which seems everytime i attempt house work or study)today she fed about 1.30 as it was just before dh went to work and i dont take much notice of times as its when she demands it til 3:15 when i feed her while i wait for the school bus. And then its almost nonstop feeding from 4.30-5
I might write the times down and see for a few days...it could just be her normal...
Yeah, that sounds like it's probably fine. There are always some 'outliers'.
The only thing I'd add is that few poos and issues can indicate poor gut health - how's your gut? Any ABs during/since birth? I'm not certain in the value of giving babies probiotics (since the stuff in breastmilk is the best for baby guts), but certainly you could work to improve your own gut health if you think it might be less than great and see if that helps.
My last baby went every 4-6 days around that age. I was told it was normal for BF babies to go up to a week without going. She will become more regular as she gets older.
In the first 6-7 weeks it isn't typical for breastfed babies to go more than a day between poos. After that then, yes, they often go longer. Infrequent pooing is one indicator of insufficient intake and is worth further investigation (but doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem in and of itself).
My gut health is average. No ab's in 2ish years but hopefully will be seeking some fine tuneing from a natropath & alike soon, as i know a few things are out of kilter. And there are some good probiotics for babies and mums im thinking bugs normal is 4-6 days... Everything else is with in the relms of normality..
There are lots of variations it seems. I have the opposite and bub poos at least 6 times a day and often 10 times!
I think if she is weeing enough and weight gains are ok it should be fine. The 'formed' but you describe sounds a bit strange, but it could just be the length of time it is in her intestines.
