    Biting and sore nipple

    Hi all,
Dd has been a little bit of a biter lately. She had really settled down with it and stopped. About 3 days ago she bit me really hard. Ever since that nipple has been sooo sore and red. One part of the areola (sp) has gone red. It is killing when I feed on that side. Do you think it could be infected?!? I'm so sore, it hurts when im not feesding too.
Any advice would be great, thank u rach
Also dd is 6 months 1 week and has two chompers on the bottom gum

Ouch, that doesn't sound good! She could possibly have chomped down on one of the little Montgomery glands on the nipple and caused it to block up - the glands secrete an oily substance to help keep your nipples soft and, much like the pores of your face that can get blocked and create a pimple, they can get blocked and sore.

Try giving it a gentle rub in the shower with a warm face washer. If it is a simple blockage, the rubbing might take off a couple of layers of dead skin and unblock it.

It could also be that she's simply caused a bit of inflammation when she bit.

If it doesn't feel better in the next day or so you might want to get a GP to look at it, just in case.

Thanks OP. I have noticed some puss or oily stuff coming out of the cut where she got me. Maybe it was on one of those glands? I'm not sure if it's possible? Will keep an eye on it for sure. So sore ATM!

It sounds really similar to when I had a blocked gland a few months ago. Little bit of pus came out too, it was horrid. But if it is weeping, then it is probably in the process of unblocking, so that's good.

Hope it clears soon. I remember the pain... Ouch. Not fun.

Leon bit me hard a few weeks ago when we had a big clap of thunder that surprised him, took about a week to go from ouchy and red to clearing, but was so sore that everything that touched that side hurt

tippytoes I have a biter too and she's up to her second round of wounding now that her top two teeth cracked through yesterday.
You are describing exactly what she did to me last time. I have had a blocked Montgomery's before, but this was a wound/cut. It got weepy/bleeding and a bit pussy. The pain was toe curling. I just kept it clean by washing it after each feed and keeping a clean BP on it.
If it goes more than a couple of days for me, my policy is to get it checked, but thankfully I've been able to get them to heal.

Hi Kim thank u for ur advice.. I think it's a cut and possibly infected... Getting some redness around the area now
Just fed Dd off that side and it was agony!! It's been about 4 days now. It does t seem to be getting any better. Will has to pump off that side I can't bear to put her in it again....may need to go to dr if infected?

I have a chomper too but so far have been lucky enough to heal things up between feeds.......he only has two or three every 24 hours anyway.
I did however buy a nipple guard when I had lots of problems feeding early on and I was seriously considering using that to protect my sore nipples if he bit me harder. Do you thinnk a guard might help you?
