    Grazes

I'm back!! (Everybody ready for a million questions from little_o)

Breastfeeding seems a little better this time round, but my nipples are getting some grazes.

Attachment SEEMS to be good but it's not 100 percent comfortable. The LC's are helping but nothing seems to be making it completely pain free.

Is it normal again for the nipples to be sore for a few days? Dd2 is a larger baby and one of the LC's said this can make a difference feeding because their suck can be stronger, which she definitely has. Will it just get better?

Also I am getting some grazes. Not around the nipple but right in the centre. I can't work Out why. The nipple isn't pinched when it comes out? Could it just be from the suck? I'm putting lansinoh on them all the time.

Argh I just want this time to work without shields!!

    Re: Grazes

My daughter had a very strong suck and I got grazes like you describe. I used lansinoh and air dried my nipples and they did recover after some time.

Just to be sure, are you getting any pain between feeds? Do your nipples feel sore when you get out of the shower, or when you change temperatures?

Have you got some hydrogel discs? I haven't used them but they apparently really help for grazes.

    Re: Grazes

Definitely lots of BM and air drying, I found lots of lansinoh just made everything sticky and gummy and worse, but maybe alternating between air drying and lansinoh worked better. It's hard to tell this early if it is the skin getting used to feeding or an attachment problem, I guess grazes heal in a few days but injuries from an attachment/sucking issue would hang around longer? Not sure....

    Yes, it gets better

After each feed, gently squeeze out a bit more milk, and pat (don't rub) it onto your nipples, and let that milk air dry on you.

When it's dry, put on (dab, don't rub) some Lansinoh.

I did that after every feed/express, and the grazes and cracks eased up reasonably quickly, and never got too dreadful. Nothing is perfect, but that's what worked for me

LittleO i feel ya! DD is the same, but my smallest bub. I attachment seems fine i think its the lack of.... Milk (colosorum here) so the sucking toung is rubbing on the nipples center.

    Re: Grazes

Congrats hon and yes, it still hurts second time round. Bummer! It should back off though and if not, she may have an attachment issue. DD2 was a brilliant feeder so it was odd that my nipples were so badly damaged within a week. My LC found her posterior tongue tie at around 2 weeks of age which had caused all my problems. Her tongue tie was snipped but I exclusively pumped for around 5 weeks to heal my nipples. I exclusively BF her til 12 months then mixed fed til just after 13 months. So get your LC to check things out again soon, she may have a TT.
