So I am currently with a second bout of mastitis. Is there anything I can do after its cleared to avoid it happening a third time. Has anyone had it more than twice?(please be no!)
I think I've worked out one of maternity bras must constrict flow so I am not wearing it anymore, could it be anything else?
How is feeding going? Mastitis is commonly associated with blockages so not effectively emptying the breast is a key risk factor. Other things like poorly fitting bras can contribute.
Some women are prone to it, though. You can try massage or ultrasound therapy, too.
Good luck!
I constantly had to massage, even after feeding.
I stopped wearing bras for a little while (leaving me house bound lol)
I found masaging was easiest and most comfortable while I was in the shower
Feed frequently!
whenever you feel that your breasts are uncomfortably full, pick up your baby and feed him (he will never say no, I am sure) or express some milk until your breasts feel soft and comfortable.
Then apply an icepack to the breasts. These 2 steps alone will usually resolve any flu like symptoms you are having.
It won't be like this forever. Many mums worry that they will be "the type of person that always gets mastitis" This isn't the case. It's all about knowing how to prevent it (feed frequently, and keep your breasts soft and not overful)
