    I need help!!

Can anyone suggest a decent lactation consultant in Perth? We were going so well with breastfeeding and I felt so confident. Well my confidence has been shot down, I can no longer get DD to latch on properly. I dont know what changed, what I am doing wrong etc, but she no longer has a nice wide attachment. It hurts like no other and I have spent the last two days trying my best to correct it, with no luck. I am so close to buying formula but I just really want to bf....so stressed out

Great big hugs for you firstly...I can sense the stress in your post. I'm sorry its so painful for you all of a sudden. You're doing a great job persisting through it and I'm sure its something that can be set right with some good advice & support from a LC. Off the top of my head I can't think of anything really obvious but seeing as its come out of the blue I wonder how your DD has been overall? Has she been unwell or unsettled? Has she had lots of wind for example? For us, DDs attachment gets particularly bad if she's irritable with wind so I try and help her work that through before feeds.

Have you tried her in different positions or even feeding lying down?

The only other thing I'm thinking is possibly nipple thrush. It will cause pain for you and might be irritating her mouth too.

If you can see a LC they can probably identify thrush and any other attachment issues that might be presenting.

    Good luck, hang in there.

I had a great LC but I can't find her number A friend's LC, who works through SJOG Subi, put me in contact with her maybe try phoning SJOG maternity ward to see if they can give you some numbers. So sorry I can't find mine, I'll keep hunting!

In the meantime can you try having a nice relaxed bath with bub? Just lay her on your tummy and let her attach in her own time. Might not help but worth a shot until you can get a LC.

just wanted to send you hugs, sounds like your doing a great job and well done for sticking at it, DD had a few times where her attachment went off for a few days and it drove me crazy!! but either went back to being ok or we worked out a different possition or hold that helped. try ringing one of the help lines (ABA) and getting some advice, maybe they can give you the number for a LC in your area?? or call your local hopital maternity ward.
I second the nice relaxing bath! relaxed mumma, relaxed bubba.....better chance of a good..pain free.. feed!

    Bug hugs and well done!

I'm sorry things are still so hard hun. You can find the most highly qualified LCs in WA here: http://www.alca.asn.au/5497/Find_a_C...ern_Australia/

If you are near Joy Anderson she'd be my first pick, she is very good.

Are you a member of the ABA? Group meetings can be a great place to get support and advice - visitors are always welcome too, if you're not a member yet.

Glad to hear you got an appointment hun, and don't even go there about being a fool! I blubbered uncontrollably over the phone to one LC when I was struggling with DS so I know how you feel. Everything is topsy turvy now but I promise it will get better. Just take is easy on yourself, try and rest as much as you can too.

Let us know how you go.

You're not a fool at all! Quite the opposite actually, actively trying to fix your BF issues. Good on you! I cried like a crazy woman on several occasions to my LC and she pulled me through each time. We BF until 11.5 months Good luck with your appointment, you'll feel a lot more reassured soon, I'm certain
