    Hope your appointment went well.

For anyone else who needs help in Perth, KEMH has a lactation clinic, staffed by lactation consultants, that is free if you had your baby at Kemh. I think they take referrals from outside though. They do one on one appointments and day stays.

Thank you so much all of you! I really appreciate the encouraging words and advice from each of you.

So I saw Joy today and my confidence has been boosted. She introduced me to 'baby led attachment', something I never knew about before then. It was amazing to see DD move instinctively towards the nipple herself, and latch on herself, without me forcing her head into place. The difference in attachment is much, much better. I dont want to say too much and get ahead of myself/jinx myself, but the last two feeds I have used this technique and its been great.

SO now I want to know why they dont mention anything about this in hospital??! Here I am trying to force her mouth and head into the 'perfect position' when all along she knows how to do it, and do it well, on her own.

    Yay!
Yeah, they should know and promote this, but.... They're generaly in too much of a hurry, you know. It can take an hour (or more even) for baby to get there and show an interest, but they just want to get you out of there so they can move on to the next person.

    Thats fantastic news hun.

go your DD! Such a clever little girl. Fingers crossed this is the start to a wonderful breastfeeding journey together.

Just thought I would also throw in, that method also works great lying down.

    All the best.

That's great news! I'm still struggling with attachment a lot of the time too so I need to take a few more tips on baby led attachment....good reminder.

Keep up the great work, you're doing an amazing job.

UsPlus2 - At the moment I am doing it while sitting in a nice reclined position on the lounge, so almost laying down. I'm scared for when I eventually sit up, but i'm hoping after doing it this way for a bit we will both get the hang of it and sitting up will be easy - because im certainly not whipping off my top and reclining in the middle of coffee club!!

Infinity - Definately give it a go. Apparently there are videos of it on the ABA website and you tube to assist you.

Just had another good feed with her. Off to bed now, the last two days have been emotionally exhausting.

That is really great news hun. I am so glad that you are feeling better about things and woo hoo for two good feeds.

Some hospitals are encouraging baby led attachment now but not very many yet. Hopefully it will take off because it really helps lots of mums. Perhaps you could write a letter to your hospital to tell them how much easier things would have been for you if you'd been shown or told about Baby Led Attachment.

I hope today is a day of pain free feeds for you hun. Let us know.

Great work on asking for help. I love baby led attachment. it worked for me for the initial feed, and i have used it later when i have had attachment issues.

Thanks again ladies. The feeding has been mostly good since yesterdays appt now. Couple of times been a bit nippy but I take her off and re attach. I also went to my mums group today and the girls were so wonderful and supportive and full of advice and encouragement. Its good to talk to others about breastfeeding, I am so green when it comes to breastfeeding and I learnt heaps from the girls today.
