Question Occasional shooting pain in one breast - what is it?? I don't know ..

    Hi

The last 24 hours I have had this shooting pain in my right breast - from the inside bottom towards the nipple - a couple of times an hour.

Does anyone know what this is and whether it is related to BF? I have bf my other kids and have not experienced anything like this. I also had mastitis for the first time when this bub was 10 days old and it is not that kind of sore. It's not sore when the shooting pain goes, it lasts a couple of seconds.

Thanks ladies. I am seeing my GP on Saturday anyway for all the girlie stuff but thought someone on here might know in the meantime.

I was about to start a thread for the EXACT same thing. It happens in my right breast but at the top not bottom! Only noticed it today...
    Hopefully someone has an idea.

Does it happen when you get cold? I used to get vasospasms when DS was little - sharp pain when my boobs got cold or rubbed against my clothing. The nipple would turn white & there would be a short, sharp pain. Is it like that?

I get it sometimes too, usually when the breast is on the empty side. Nobobdy has been able to explain it to me! But it's not too much of a drama here

Okay, at least I know I am not alone

Nah, not when cold, like nella, when I am warm - shower, warmish day here like today, and not when on empty side - my boobs haven't fully settled.

Well, at least others feel this weird sensation - must be just one of those things I will ask GP on Saturday though if she has any idea - and DS2 getting shots tomorrow so might ask MACH nurse quickly in the consult.

Ok, done the feed, back to bed

It's not a let down is it? Because you will get multiple let downs during a feed.......

Nah, I do get mid-feed let-downs (which actually hurt too with the pressure), but it is a very different feeling, very localised and a quick shooting pain, then gone ...

It's not thrush is it??? I have got ongoing thrush and get the same pains. They say it feels like shooting pains so i wonder if its that. Like some of the other ladies said it could also be vasospasm. My LC thought that thats what i may have too but my nipple doesn't go white it turns purple after a feed and then goes away. If it is vasospasm, unfortunately there is no cure.

Vasospasms are reduced by avoiding sudden temp changes (I used to have to hold my boobs if I walked into a cold room ). But, they just stopped happening after a few months - went away by themselves.
