With DD I wanted so badly to bf I didn't even buy bottles when she was born. I got a huge slap in the face when the nurses in the hospital gave her a pacifier and a bottle behind my back while she was recieving her PKU test. She was underweight and they were freaking out about it. Obviously this hospital was not bf friendly. When they brought her back in they tried to act like they forgot I specifically said to not giver her a bottle or pacifier. Instantly she hated the breast. and why not? She got milk easier and faster through the bottle nipple. It devastated me to no end. I tried everything that the lactation consultant told me to do. We had skin to skin contact all day and the moment I brought her to the breast she would scream bloody murder. Did I forget to mention that after I gave birth to her the stupid nurse shoved her on my breast violently and it freaked her out. So on top of it she was scared of the breast. Nothing was working. So I exclusively EBM for a month and half. After that time I was so depressed I couldnt bf that I gave up...which I still regret to this day.
So now that I am pregnant I want to be educated on all of it. I am switching hospitals to a more bf friendly one. I really want to bf! I have a great supply for it. I have decided that if worst comes to worse I will still exclusively EBM for as long as I can, but in the mean time tell me your story! Tell me how you initiated bf and if you have any tips you can give me in the first few moments following birth to make bf easier.
