So DD and I have the tummy flu from hell

It's worse for me thank goodness but we are both suffering from this awful tummy thing... I was vomiting for 10 hours straight last night and today I feel very queasy, achy and lethargic. DD has only had two big vomits in the last 24 hours but she swings from bring my usual energetic happy baby (she's 8.5 months) to extremely cranky and will cry inconsolably for periods of 10-40 minutes. Anyway she's off her breastfeeds too and I wonder- could this be because my milk tastes different when I'm ill? I couldn't even stomach sips of water last night so I know I was a bit dehydrated ... It does not seem to have affected my milk supply as I pumped my usual amount this morning and if i squeeze i get a shot in my eye but it does seem to have affected my let down which is very slow at the moment. She finally had a good feed at around 11am but her feed prior to that was way back at 10pm!

Oh and she's teething quite badly too!

I would say that with her feeling crook she probably just isnt that hungry and that should be ok for the short term. I guess the main thing is to check that she is not getting dehydrated. Hope that you guys start to feel better soon, it's so hard being crook and having a crook wee one as well

She's having sips of water from her cup so I think she's ok there.

Ok I think my supply has dropped... Could only express a tiny amount and baby is very fussy at the breast- but this could be her own lack of appetite- I have not eaten much at all in the last 36 hours as it just comes northwards. I've got some Weleda lactation tea but I'm worried because I can't just pop baby back onto the boob to help build my supply back up as she flat out refuses. I can pump but pumping and seeing only a tiny amount dribble out is depressing! I'm pretty sure baby takes more out than the pump though as I can even hand express milk still.

Right on the money there LL, your bub is really effective in drawing the milk out. She will, no doubt, get a bit cranky at times that it is not flowing out as easily and this can be part of the fussiness too ITMS. Fenugreek tea is also wonderful! and if you have any flaxseed oil in the cupboard i recommend popping half a teaspoon into a smoothie (if you have the ingredients for one...i usually use a banana, some frozen berries if i have them, some plain yoghurt, honey and milk...and wizz it up with some sprinkled cinnamon). this is what my naturopath recommended for low supply moments.
make sure that you are also keeping hydrated as that can also affect supply xx

Hope you guys are both feeling better soon

Just checked and the Weleda tea has 500mg of fenugreek so all good. Not sure i can stomach a smoothie though.

Update for anyone interested: I did have supply (or more precisely let down) issues for several days after and baby was so irritable at the boob because of it but a combo of the following worked a treat:

    Weleda nursing tea
    Liquids
High protein/good fat foods (once I could actually keep food down)

Putting baby on the boob more often didn't really work because at that age she was only drinking when she absolutely wanted it.
