Curious - Rental amounts

So, i am just curious for those who rent in Melbourne (or anywhere i suppose as i am just curious).......

I am wondering what rental amount's you pay.

I don't need specifics, if you don't feel OK telling me, guess break it down;

Group A: $1,000 - $1,200 PCM
Group B: $1,200 - $1,500 PCM
Group C: $1,500 - $1,800 PCM
Group D: $1,800 - $2,000 PCM
Group E: $2,000 - and over!

I am just interested to know how much people are paying. Looking at house's in the area's we want to live, the price's they asking we just would like to know IF people really pay these amounts and if it is just the way it is now.

To be in the area you want, you just have to suck it up and pay such amounts.

We're thinking of renting our 3br place out and renting a 4br in the same area.

We'd be looking to charge $2400pcm for our place and paying around $2800-3200pcm for somewhere else. We're about 6km from the city.

Financially it makes more sense for us to do that than sell this place and pay $40K stamp duty for the privilege of buying somewhere.

We are looking at doing the same kind of thing Fi. We are going to rent this place out, as it is just to small and i HATE where it is...and rent somewhere else. But bigger, and where i want means a lot more $$'s!

ETA: Shari - well, i must admit we dont mind it over pascoe vale way..we used to live in Craigieburn. But, i like chirnside park and would like to live there.
However, i am open to area's as i am looking for value for money too. I dont mind paying alot more than we ever have, IF it has all i want!!! make sense?

I know - it's always such a dilemma isn't it - whether to go for the extra space or for the location you want. It's driving me nuts I tellsya.

Hi Paps,
We live in Mt Evelyn (just a stones throw from Chirnside). We have a 3 b/r with study, 2 toilets, huge back yard, big deck with another bedroom/room underneath and we pay $325 p/w. Alot but its what you have to pay

Ubba- yeah.. thats it. Mount Ev is pretty exxy too. Dont mind Mt Evelyn actually.... although, what your paying is pretty good, from what i can tell by looking around today! But yeah... sigh. BUT, i have to say... i think its worth it!

We are in group A and have a 3 br place with a large yard and large dlug in Ringwood. Our rent is very 'cheap'. But the house is a bit of a dump/ old needs restumping and is not maintained very well. We are looking at getting into the housing market cos it just keeps going up and it is just money down the toilet!!
I grew up in Chirnside Park and it is a lovely area I have no idea what rentals are worth out there tho.

Jeesh - After seeing what Ubba is paying and what they're getting for it, I must admit Chirnside Park is looking more enticing to me as well! We're paying more than that over here and our house doesn't sound nearly as big.

DP just reminded me that the grass is always greener...I just advised him I'd be willing to MOW that grass to be paying that much for a house that size! But that's the price we pay for being close to DP's family and the CBD.

Im actually looking at rentals as we speak, lol
And i am shocked at the prices, we are looking for a 4 bed 2 bath, and they are currently renting for about $395 and up, the nicer/newer ones are $420 and up.
Queensland just seems to be so pricey, half/more than of huubys wage is going to go on rent!
We currently pay $250, but thats because it is my parents house and they were helping us out, but now its just to expensive for them.

I was in the Group C bracket until the beginning of March: 2 bedroom, small, brand-new high-rise apartment in heart of Moonee Ponds. It was 12 mins away from Flinders St by train on good days and as I was working in Southbank at the time, it was ideal. I was paying this by myself.

After pulling my head out of my bum, realising I could get much more for what I was paying and deciding I wanted a puppy (before I knew I was pg), I focused on finding a house in the same price range. Now in a huge house in Pascoe Vale, older style but with an extremely large back yard, 3 bedrooms and probably 15-20mins from the CBD by train.

HTH a bit! What area are you looking in? If it's north of the river, I've lived in Collingwood, Fitzroy, Brunswick, Moonee and now Pascoe Vale so I have some info on rent in these suburbs.
