At the moment we live in a "lifestyle" property, just 10 minutes to the edge of town. Despite being so close we have horrid internet. No cable, no adsl, mobile is pretty dogdy and expensive at best. So we have satellite. Very expensive, almost no bandwith and laggy. Also we are being bypassed by the NBN when is finally goes in
We have been planning on rebuilding the house we are in. We bought for the price and the location. Little did we know till after the offer that the internet was horrid.
Have come across another place, a bit further out, but it has ADSL!! The house just needs a reno and a bit of work on the garden, most of what we need is there. Price wise could be good. Not quite enough for us to want to move straight away, but boy, better internet is very tempting and is almost tipping the scales for us.
The Internet is a big part of our lifestyle. In fact, we are looking at moving and proximity to the exchange is one of the criteria in choosing our new house. If we decide to stay here, then we will look at switching providers from ADSL to cable. Our ADSL is sooo slow and I kinda gave up gaming with DH cause we couldn't get enough bandwidth at the same time
Absolutely! Since DH has been working from home, we have been considering moving a bit further away from the city, but Internet speeds are a serious consideration for us and have made us stay put. Sure, DH is in I.T., but even if he wasn't, I think we would find a slower connection (we have ADSL 2) incredibly frustrating. My BIL has just made a move further away (he is also running his own business) and they are struggling so much with their Internet - not only are they spending an absolute fortune on wireless dongle recharges, but they have issues with quotas, connection reliability and crazy-slow speeds. I hear them moan about it and realise we would be miserable without our current connection speed. Having said all that, let me preface my opinion on the fact that we are computer nerds and spend our lives online
The whole internet thing here is driving DH to despair. It is getting to the point where I can barely do anything on the net as it eats into his precious bandwidth. So no FB games for me, as he has to watch videos of other's playing Eve The internet angst he exhibits every day is almost enough to make me go through the horrid stress of selling, getting a new mortgage and moving.
Back to look at the house on the weekend to see if we get a definite yes or no from it.
Go see your local MP and get in his ear. They are elected to help you so make him work for you. If you don't complain to him he will never know there are problems.
Tell him you want better internet and now. Ask why you are being missed out when the new system is installed.
I thought it was for everyone, I saw somewhere 99% were going to get it and the 1% missing out were really hard to get to.
