Question Anyone waited to conceive additional children after c-section?

    Hi ladies,

I'm wondering how long you may have waited (if at all) to have additional children after a c-section?

Most of the burning/stretching sensations of pregnancy were on or around the site of what is now where I had my emergency c-section. That WAS six months ago but there is still fleeting moments of tenderness. Which made me wonder about any pressure on the scar tissue etc. when I am heavily pregnant with my next bubba.

    What was your experience?

Scars generally take about 3 months to heal. So its recommended to wait 18 months between births if you are going for a VBAC.

If you are not - then you can fall pregnant anytime after that 3 months. HTH.

I was told to wait at least 12 months before trying again... but having said that everyone heals at different rates, so as long as you feel you've given your body enough time it should be fine...

hi ballerina, interesting topic you have raised! I have wondered myself, my csection was 7 months ago, but I still have pain/numbness/tingling etc at the site. Worries me when I start to think about maybe getting pg again!
I will be watching this thread with interest in regards to others experience. What arimeh posted is generally what I understood to be the way to go.
Mind you, I do remember reading an article recently (cant for the life of me remember what or where...!?) about how it can take the body up to 5 (!) years to FULLY recover from a caesarean section, I dont know, sounds like a loooong time to me!

    Thanks muchly

Space it out is the general consensus so far - which makes perfect sense!

Curiosity came from speaking to some of my friends who experienced quite a bit of pain on their c-section site when pregnant the second time. I suspect this is unavoidable but was just wondering if there was any rule of thumb when it came to waiting/ healing or whether there were any other complications to consider...

I will more than likely be in for a caesarian the next time/s round.

    Hey Starrysky

Tx for your post - it will be interesting. A lot of information I have seen has been conflicting too!!

So I thought I ought to gather some advice and experiences from mums in the same predicament - you sound very much like me - I experience pain every now and again. Particularly have a hard time wearing my daughter in a sling or backpack on my front....but that's a little off-topic. LOL

    Thanks again!

The pain you experience will be the muscles knitting themselves together again, and the nerves rejoining and stuff - nothing to do with how well your uterus is healing

I have 3 years between my 2 girls and I didn't experience any additional pain or discomfort sround the scar. I was aware of the scar but it wasn't concerning me at any stage.

I waited 5 years after my c-section to have another bubs. A lot was to do with the mental and emotional issues I had with having another bubs, but I think my body was well and truely healed after 12 months. I think it helped that I got my body back in shape and was exercising regularly. By that stage I had no numbness or tingling or pulling sensations. But again like the others have said, as long as you are ready, you should be good to go.

My OB for DS said we could wait 6 months before falling pregnant again and going for a VBAC. I have to see a different OB this time and he is quite happy with the time difference. DS will be 20 months when this one is born and thinks I'll be good to go for a VBAC. Got my periods back at 7 months and I fell pregnant when DS was 11 months.

As for recovery after the c/s, I feel my first OB did a fantastic job on the surgery and combined with me getting back into pilates and water aerobics soon after the recommended 6 weeks rest period, I think that really, really helped my body heal.

    Hi,
I waited 12 months before falling pg with my second child. The pregnancy ended in another c-section. Then I waited 4 years before falling pg again. But i waited so long due to emotional issues in relation to my c-sections.

This is an interesting thread for me as I have just had a c-section and am turning 37 this year which doesn't leave much time for me if I want to have another babe. And we're pretty sure we do want a sibling for James. I just don't think I could wait much more than 9 months before trying to conceive again - the whole clock ticking thing has me quite nervous! I will talk about it with my doc on my next visit.

I was told to wait 6-9 months before TTC I fell in in Feb this year which is 9 months after my E-C-sec.
I have to be honest and say that there have been a few days recently when I have been a bit tender internally under the scar and just around the scar but have been told it is normal as the muscles/ligaments stretch and soften it just feels like when you pull/strain a muscle though so nothing too bad, just remember also that your scar is strong.
