Bath after C Section

Just a slly question... Can you have a bath after a C Section?

ohh good idea august_moon_mum I had a devil of a time getting those tapes off wish I saw this post earlier would have saved me alot of swearing and hopping

Should be perfectly fine.....to help dry the wound, hold a pad to it, put your nickers on and the sticky back will stick to your nickers.....draws away all the excess moisture. IYKWIM

Ditto on the interesting. I was also told not to take a bath, to shower and try and keep the wound as dry as possible Really interesting.
PS: Pat on shoulder for the moms who can get into a bath and out again after that operation!!! I could hardly get into bed!!!!!

bumping this old thread...

I've been told not to have a bath 'until the bleeding stops' (ie lochia). I can't see what this has to do with the price of fish, unless they're concerned that I'll want to use a tampon if i'm still bleeding (they said 6 weeks for tampon use). I'm wondering if the advice is a bit outdated... what recent experiences have people had?

I was told 6 weeks, no bath, no tampons etc. that was 17 months ago.

i bathed the night i came home from hospital and did every night ...i came home 5 days post cesarean you just have to be careful getting in/out...and make sure your scar is dried properly

I was told no immersion for 6 weeks, so no baths and definitely no swimming. The midwives said this was to prevent infection of the wound, so I guess it's really only relevant if your wound is still healing. Mine was well and truly sealed up by week 3 but who has time for baths nowadays?! I feel like wonderwoman if I manage to have a shower.

Thanks ladies. It's frustrating how widely varying the advice is that people receive!

Vin you must remember that I've still got a sleepy newborn and a helpful DP at home full time...even then the days evaporate.... and I'm sure in another month I'll be in your shoes.

Actually thought, I'd like to have a bath as read somewhere it is a nice way for c/section mum to bond with newborn, soak in the tub with them.

from day 5 (as i have already said) when i bought bubs home we have had baths each night together (well not much lately) and yes i found it helped with bonding

I was told 2 weeks after just to make sure everything has healed enough. Im not a bath kinda gal but was hanging to relax in one. Unfortunately i got an infection (thanks crappy hospital!) and only now at 8-9 weeks post ceaser am able to jump in the bath.

If you feel comfortable doing it and your scar is looking good then go for it, like everyone else has said just make sure its super dry afterwards.

I was told until lochia was finished, nothing to do with the c/section, but to prevent infection becuase while you are still bleeding your cervix may still be slightly open & prone to infection.
