During DD's birth, I had a failed epidural. Failed meaning they attempted four times to get it into my back and failed each time. I have scar tissue in my back and believe this is the cause (although haven't looked into it medically).
If they couldn't get the epidural in for that, then I'm guessing both an epidural and a spinal block would be out of the question for a planned or emergency c/s. So what would my options be? Knocked out? Would there be another alternative where I could stay awake?
Again, just pondering. Thought about this during DD's pregnancy too but didn't ask the question and assumed the epidural would work.
hon, you will have a meeting with the anesthetic team in advance and let them know about the issues. They will need to use a smaller guage needle which will go through any spinal space. I have the same issues. I have calcification in my spine (which we only discovered as a result of trying to get the epi in) and I will have to have the smaller needle. When it is planned, they have more time to prepare and try different things so try not to worry too much. I've seen them get Epi's and Spinal's into patient I thought would never be able to take one!
