Do you Always get a Priv Room after csection (public hospital)

i had a csection earlier this year with my daughter, but i was sent to a big hospital due to her having heart complications, (she sadly passed away at 3 and a half weeks old) but now im currently nearly 25 weeks and having another csection due to not having enough time to heal.
last time i had my own priv room, but im not going to that hospital but a different ppublic hospital and was wondering if i will again get a private room.
that way my hubby can stay with me living over a hour out of town, but not sure if it works that way. any help would be great.. thanks

I have never actually known of anyone getting a private room after a caesarean at a public hospital! Honestly, you should probably not count on it.

So sorry to hear off your loss, but also congratulations on your current pregnancy.

Generally in a public hospital nope doesnt guarantee you a private room BUT given your history their is a high chance you will. It depends on the hospital and I suggest you ask about this at appts and when you are admitted for CS.

Some hospitals do not have many single rooms at all.

I was in Royal Women's Melbourne and was in a double room. DD was taken away to Royal Children's straight away due to a birth defect, and it sucked being in a room with someone else and their baby.
DH was able to stay in the Women's accomodation which was only a few blocks away. We just had to talk to the social worker to make sure he could.
But, again, that could have been because of DD's defect or the fact that I had to deliver in Melbourne which is 500kms away from home.

I had a private room after my c/s. I think they felt sorry for me after such a long labour.

I too lost my first baby and then had to have a C/s for my second. I was in a public hospital as due to the risks I was not allowed to go to a different one (this was the tertiary hospital).
I live about an hour out of town and due to this the MW said I'd have to stay in hospital for about 5 days.
I informed them due to my previous loss and the c/s that I'd go home after 48 hours unless my hubby could stay and I had a pvt room. I spoke to people right up the chain about this.(dr's, social workers, Midwives )
I ended up with a pvt room. I just couldn't have coped being in hospital without my hubby after the outcome of losing our little Ellen last time.
They were really good and understanding and I got what I needed to not be a screaming loony :-)

Nope. I had a c-section with my first and was put back in the 4 bed room where I had been leading on the maternity ward up to it.

I think Kateo you were extremely lucky, my 1st was an extreme prem and the hospital did very little to consider my feelings at being roomed in with all these healthy full term pregnant women. But then again we ARE talking about the RWH. TheNicu staff were fantastic and some of the MIddies were but the people "up the chain" couldn't careless, i was just another statistic!

last time it was at the Mater mothers brisbane, this time just at a small hospital, this is a very high risk pregnancy but so far everything seems to be good after having 3misscarrages <12w 1 misscarry <16w and neonatal death. i wasnt so much counting on having a private room, but just wondering as it was great having hubby there after my last csection to help with the morhine button so i could sleep without waking up in pain because i havnt been pressing it, or help going getting on off the toilet/ shower/ to get my cloths on ect ect i feel much more comfortable with him then any nurce. plus after everything we have been through im absauoulty terriefied of somthing going wrong and want our new little girl grace to be wtach constantly as our last daughter kept forgetting to breath, then it was found when she was 3 weeks old she had floppy airways, which is what well yea..

The other BB gals have already answered your question about the room. But I wanted to address something you said in this part of your post. Your hubby shouldn't be pressing your Morphine button. it's only for patient use, there is a few reasons for this, if you do have break through pain that is waking you up from sleep it is better to inform the nurses/doctors so they can help you with the pain. Hope this helps for next time. I'm very sorry your angel baby couldn't stay xox

When I had my c section I had a private room but we ended up back in birth suite anyway until I was discharged

Hi butterflye, welcome to bb! I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. There are no guarantees of a private room in a public hospital or in a private hospital for that matter. Private hospitals generally have mostly private rooms though so your chances are much higher of being by yourself. Where I birthed there were only single and family rooms. Most public hospitals have mainly shared rooms. You can always speak to the hospital and let them know your concerns and see what their room placement is like. You can also ring around hospitals and see which ones have more private rooms? thanks every body for replying i will talk to the doctors at my next antenatal and see how we go from there hopfuly i do get a priv room, though it sounds a proberly wont. but fingers crossed

I think it depends on the hospital. Our public hospital gives you a private room after a c/s.
