    Question Exercise after c-section

    Hopefully someone can help me?

I am recovering from my second c-section and am wondering about exercise. Piper will be 3 weeks on Monday and I have started walking but would like to start some tummy exercises/light aerobics.

When can I start? Do I have to wait for my check up?

    What exercises would be suitable.

I hope someone can offer some suggestions..

    Thanks

Can't really offer advice as I haven't had a c/s, but I'm thinking maybe the pool would be ok. Like water aerobics. But make sure you get the ok before doing it, as like I said, haven't had one.

I would wait for your check-up before doing any strenuos excercise or abs work.
Even without a c-section your abs have seperated during pregnancy and need time to readjust before being put under pressure.

I have had 2 c-sections and I would definately wait until after your 6 week check. You only have 3 weeks to go and it is worth getting the all clear just incase you could do some damage. Continue walking but I wouldnt do tummy exercises or even light aerobics until after the check up.

I was wondering re exercise too as I have a gym membership which re-activates a couple of months after my c-section, but I know I'd feel nervous putting any strain around my abdominal area....

Renee, only walking is appropriate at this point. Ask about this at your checkup, but you may have to wait even longer before starting ab work.
After your checkup you can probably do low-impact aerobics (one foot always on the floor, boring I know), or a step machine or cross-trainer. You should be able to swim as well.
Take it easy...it's better to be patient and heal properly. Once you start exercising again, you'll be amazed how quickly your strength and flexibility return.

I deffinately agree with the other girls, I've had 2 C's and I would wait till your 6 week check up before doing any ab excersise. I had stairs at my house with my 2 and that was about the most I could manage. Walking would be working your abs gently anyway so I would stick with that for now.

Thanks girls! I have not started tummy exercises. I went to mother's group on Friday and we had a guest speaker who suggested some exercises - but told me to definitely stay away from my abs.
    Thanks again

    Underestimating CS as major surgery.

My wife has been a passionate runner for most of her life. She really misses exercise. However, she is not only recovering from a CS but also from a DRAM- which means her stomach muscles have separated.

I remember that after 2 weeks we took a walk down to our local shops and back (about 800m round trip). We had to make several stops and she was really tired at the end of it. She felt deflated after having been reduced from such a high level of fitness to this. But I think we had no idea of what a major operation a CS really was until that day. Perhaps people underestimate this in general and have unrealistic expectations of themselves in terms of their recovery.

After three months she can now walk much further and drive. But she's seeing a physio now and I think that helps her to feel more positive about moving in a direction back to being able to exercise more rigorously.

It takes a lot of patience and also encouragement from us blokes when our women feel "flabby".

    Good luck. You'll get there.
