How likely is it that my uterus will rupture again?
Hi,
I had DD1 3 1/2 years ago and had to have an emergency c/s with her. I had a classical cut c/s (normal horizontal cut on the outside plus vertical cut on the inside) and was told I would only be able to have c/s from now on as my uterus may rupture if having a vbac the 2nd time around.
I had DD2 3 months ago. I was booked in for my c/s at 38wks but went into labour naturally at 37 wks. The hospital was short staffed and I laboured for 6hrs before being taken to theatre. While I was having my c/s the dr told me my uterus had ruptured in a + sign and he asked if we were planning on anymore kids. I said probably just one more. The dr said one more and thats it but then changed his mind and said no more kids. I am devasted by the fact I cant have anymore kids. We werent even sure we were going to have 1 more but now that Ive been told I can't I want to have another so badly.
Does anyone know the likelyhood of my uterus rupturing again if I did get pregnant? What if I waited like 3 - 5 yrs before getting pregnant to give my body time to heal? I am desperate for another baby. I am prepared to wait though.
I'd definitely go get a second opinion honey. I was told that the uterus can heal as much as its going to within 3 months of surgery. And after that time, well, it doesn't heal anymore ya know?
Yep, go medical opinion but hopefully this will give you some inspiration:
Before I was born, I ruptured my mother's uterus all by myself. I was delivered by emergency CS at 26 weeks (after mum was flown RFDS to hospital in the city) and my mother was told that she had a 1 in 1000 chance of having another baby. She'd had cysts on her ovaries previously and 1 still born so the chances didnt look good.
3 months later she fell pregnant with my sister.
9 months after that she had a (breech also!) vaginal birth free of any major complications...even with her uterus in the condition it was in.
That was 22 years ago.
So yes - with the correct medical care - it is possible.
I agree with the others though. Get a second opinion. There is another member who did have a rupture with her attempted VBAC. A serious rupture and unfortunately she DID lose her precious baby girl but she did go on to have another son born safe and sound where I believe they did a cs at about 33 weeks in order to deliver him before there was any real chance of her uterus rupturing again. Perhaps this could be an option for you. it would be worth speaking to more OB's about anyway. Also make sure you get a copy of your operation records to take along.
