    Hi Nim,

I wasn't expecting such a drop in blood pressure as when I had a spinal with DD I was okay (she was a vaginal delivery). But the anaesthetist said the dose of the medication that can effect blood pressure is a lot higher in a spinal for a c/s. I'm not really sure exactly how it was managed as I was very out of it and struggling to stay conscious I had an amazing anaesthetist and he was monitoring me very closely and I'm pretty sure he was furiously pumping drugs in to my drip to try and stabilise me.

Although it was horrible and a little scary it was all over pretty quickly and once I was in recovery I started to feel better. I had to stay flat in the bed for a good few hours after-wards though as my b/p would drop again if I sat up. I found that annoying as it was hard to feed lying down.

I didn't lose too much blood - about 500ml. I was also anemic during pregnancy and I'm still taking ferrograd with vit c to try and get iron levels back up. Hard work with a baby sucking all the goodness out of me

Not sure if I've been any help! I think the best thing to do is let the anaesthetist know about your history - that way they can be prepared. Do you have a good support person to talk to you while it's all happening? I found the reassurance I got from the theatre staff and DH helped keep me calm.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm happy to help where I can.

Good luck! I'll look forward to hearing how you got on.
    Dear Jandals,
Thanks for your very detail reply. To some how Iam at ease that their is solution of this problem but again reading in depth what you have been through scares me too.
I am already a panic and anxiety queen I don't know if such situation arrives what I will do.I am trying to be positive.Good thing my DH will be with me so I will be having support in theater.

I am glad you had minimal blood loss I hope same would be the case with me.My this pregnancy had been pretty rough and really want some good time now.

Jandals when did you start eating after surgery? I have always noticed proper eating with good vitamins really heals me fast. during my last coccyx removal surgery I was on very heavy pain medication which really made me weak and I was allowed to have apple juice after twenty four hours.
    Take care

Don't panic And I'm really sorry if I scared you - I didn't mean to!

I was thinking that the reaction you had last time was to a GA and a spinal will probably be quite different. Hopefully you won't have such a bad reaction this time. I'm sure the anaesthetist will help to reassure you on the day. He or she will come and talk to you before you go in to theatre and you can ask as many questions as you need to.

I was allowed a little bit of water in recovery (it was a REALLY little bit) and then I think I was able to eat about 3 hrs after surgery. Basically the midwives wanted me to wait until I wasn't feeling nauseated before I ate so as soon as I was feeling better they brought me a sandwich. I was on oxycodone and tramadol for a day or 2 but that didn't effect what I could eat.

Make sure you keep on top of your fibre intake so you don't get constipated after your c/s. I was taking lactulose and coloxyl (softener) from the day of the surgery to make sure everything flowed nicely

Try not to worry, and remember you will have your beautiful baby in your arms very soon.
