The hospital I stayed at Day 1 was if you had your bub in the morning before midday. If it was after midday, then that was day 0 and day 1 was the next day.
I stayed 7 days after my c/s. Was good to go after 5 but I wanted to lap up the luxury![]()

when I went to my antenatal (sp?) classes, the midwife advised that no matter what time you had baby it was day 1.
I had my baby on a wednesday (day 1) and was to stay for 5 days and discharged on Sunday. I was at Nth West Private in Everton Park, Brisbane.
But it seems that some hospitals have different rules, so may pay to check with them.
I went home on day three, but the hospital did recommend staying for five days if it was your first c-section,but I asked my Doctor to let me home as I also hate hospitals, but had help waiting for me at home,Dh and mother in law!.........![]()
I had the c/s tuesday arvo/evening and was home friday arvo, though I reckon I could have gone home on thursday I had some bleeding during surgery and Jazz had jaundice that they wanted to watch. It depends on how you are feeling too, I was itching to get home but they said that 4-5 days was average. Had midwives visit us at home too. I had Shel home as well, I would have stayed as long as possible if I didn't have Shel home.
Oh and Jazz was born 5.16pm, and was counted as day 0, the next day was day one, so we left on day 3.
one week
4 days
48 hours
with my 1st son i had him on monday and left thursday morning so was in 3 days, I dont think they count the thursday as a day as discharged in the morning
with my second son he was born on a wednesday and i left friday night.
I think if you are feeling ok and bubs is feeding well 3 days is fine. Just remember to take your pain releif ontime when you get home and not to do too much
I was told if bub was born before 12pm it`s classed as day 1, if born after 12pm it`s classed as 0 day, I`m in NSW.
I stayed in hospital for 1 week, just because that`s the length of stay they expected me to stay, they said I could have stayed longer if I liked.
At my hospital if bub is born between 12am and 11.59am thats day 0. If born 12pm (so lunchtime) and 11.59pm thats day 1.
They also ask you to stay 5 days, but allow you to leave after 3 days.
Ive not had a c/s but thats what ive been told.
DS was born around 9amish I think, and the classed it as day 1.
Hospital policy was a minimum 5 days (so they said) they preferred 7 days.
I had trouble keeping food down on day 3, so had to stay until day 5.
Nic
I was in for 5 days after c/s with our little fella... am hoping to have a 5 day stay again this time, because i will really need the rest!!! (and i even like hospital food... anything, as long as i don't have to cook!).
hello everyone.
Just a quick update from my first posting of my question.
I finally went in on wednesday (22nd) to have my c-section. Turns out if i am admitted before 10am or 12 pm forgot which one ( which i did ) that was one day. anything after that is 0 day.
But in terms of how i went, i was great. By thurs when they removed all my tubes and i got up with some help from the nurses and nice rejunventing shower i was really well and relax. surprisingly the pain factor what close to nothing !!
I feel my nipple hurts more now from the breastfeeding then from the wound.
I felt so well thurs night i was requesting to leave already.
however my obs said Sat is the earliest, and by the next day friday when he came back to check the wound, he allow me home ( i think he couldn't put up with my whinging of being bored )
so I just like to comment i had a very good experience with my c-section all thanxs to my obs !
