    Hi Krystal!
Firstly, Congratulations on your second pregnancy!

In the past c/s were performed differently. The scar used to be vertically when now it is horizontally in most cases. A vertical scar doesn't heal as strong as the newer horizontal scar. Add to that the fact that OBs are much better at performing c/s these days (they've had a few decades of practice) and the scars are much stronger nowadays. But the old daying still rings in many ears: "Once a cesarean, always a cesarean". With the old type of scars, the risk of a scar rupture was a very real one. But it is greatly reduced with the new techniques.

There have been many studies done on this subject and the conclusion usually is that in a normal pregnancy, a VBaC (vaginal birth after cesarean) with no interventions (no induction, no epidural) is safer for mother and baby than a repeat cesarean. The World Health Organisation has this to say:
There is no evidence that a caesarean section is required after a previous transverse low segment caesarean section birth. Vaginal deliveries after caesarean should normally be encouraged wherever emergency surgical capacity is available.
I am actually really happy to hear that your OB is supportive of a VBaC. Although the statistics support his attitude, a lot of women have to fight for the right to have a VBaC.

I would suggest that you do some research on VBaC. This is a very good place to start: https://www.bellybelly.com.au/birth/uterine-rupture

The decision is yours and nobody can make it for you. But it is good to see that you are being offered options.

All the best, whatever you decide.

Congrat also on your new pg

I think it vareis from OB to OB to who think's you can have a VBAC or c/s.

Do the OB's think that your next baby will be in the same position to warrant a c/s?

I know that ob's are generally worried if you fall pg quickly after having a c/s that the internal scaring can tear apart (as it did in my case) and you'll need an emergency c/s.

What are YOU comfortable doing? Do you feel there is a need to have a c/s this time round?

Perhaps wait to closer to your due date and see was this little amigo is doing before making the call.

personally...I hope you get a VBAC

Good luck and I cant wait to hear aobut your journey

thanks very much for your responses so far, they have said that because she was breech the way she was there may have been a reason and its possible this one could be the same guess we will wait and see.the thing is my ob who i talk to is only a shared care gp who wont actually have anything to do with the birth so might wait until i speak to the ob who will be delivering the next one which ever way it is and get there opinion also and then way it up a bit further down the track.

I say - flood yourself with information and then make your own decision. You are only confused now as its been thrown on you. You will also find that there are many many people that have an opinion on this sort of topic.....so.....again arm yourself with information and then surround yourself with positive people!

    GOOD LUCK with everything

A breech baby does not necessarily mean a c/s, you can vaginally birth a breech baby if you so wish.

There is a quite famous Ob in newcastle who specialises in vaginal breech birth, John Bisits, and I personally know women who have birthed their breech babies at home.

All the best, VBAC is certainly the safest choice for you and your baby, keep researching

Yes, I also know women who have had vaginal breech births, some planned some were unexpectedly breech.
