Question What was your lochia like after a c/s?

It's something I think about, even now, 1 year on.

I had 3 weeks of steady bleeding, and 3 weeks of on and off bleeding.
My mum said she had no bleeding at all after her c/s.

I had a long labour, got to 10cms, and then had a c/s.
Mum had a c/s at 33wks after PPROM without labour.

Just wondering if anyone else had no bleeding after a c/s? Is it related to labour and dilation? Does everyone have fairly standard lochia like mine? Or is my mums mind a little fuzzy after a premmie and 16 years? lol

I had an elective cs. full term. I had very little bleeding. No lumps or stuff, just like a medium - light period lasting a few days and then little patches for a couple of weeks.
I had vbac 2nd time and had alot of lochia for weeks. Quite different from the cs.
I always assumed they cleaned that out when they did the surgery but I dnt know for sure where it went?

they do do a fair amount of 'cleaning out' whilst completeing the caesar BUT obviously where your placenta had 'attatched' and then come away it is like a 'wound' as such and of course no matter the amount of 'cleaning etc' done by OB/GYN you are still going to bleed...be it large/small amounts....

I just don't get how some people say they don't bleed after a caesar..of course you do!!!!! (not directing ANY of this to youy salsa..i just used yours as a quote...)

    Interesting.

Oh, BG, I had AF come back at 8 weeks precisely. Yes, I was just as annoyed, couldn't have been that clockwork while TTC!!! But then it went MIA for 4 months, back with a vengance now but as unreliable as ever. It's hard to know if its 'back to normal' or if its because of the bfing or what!

Rach, I know what you mean, I wasn't sure if my mum just had a fuzzy brain, I just figured being her 3rd plus my bro was in hospital for a while with respiratory complications it probably wasn't the first thing on her mind But maybe dilation has a part in it? I always wondered anyway. Thanks everyone

Leash - i think i've decided it's not AF - no where near heavy enough. was talking to someone yesterday about how much DD is feeding and we both, at much the same time, came to the conclusion the feeding frenzy might be causing my uterus to contract down more and bleed a bit. i do NOT want AF yet so i refuse to believe that's what it is!!

not that bf is going to be a contraceptive of any sort for us seeing she sleeps anywhere from 5 to 8 hours overnight already...

I had an emergeny c/s no labour. I hardly bled at all for the first 2 days and I thought woohoo I bought all these maternity pads for nothing, but then it started and kept going for 6 weeks. I also passed a clot at about 6 weeks and it stopped altogther soon after.

I had a week or so of heavy/steady bleeding and then stop and start/light bleeding for another 3-4 weeks (spotting really).

I also laboured and was told I got to 8cm (then that was revised back to 6-7cm). I also had a heavy PPH but I don't know if that would affect the lochia at all as it was coming from a different place iykwim?

Not sure about the no bleeding at all though? Perhaps her memory has faded or the procedure for c/s has changed? (Like maybe they used to somehow take out the lining as well as the placenta???).

i laboured and got to something around 7cm before it all came to a stop and needed cs. i had a heavy bleed that they were concerned about in recovery, then it all settled down. heavy bleeding had pretty much stopped before i left hospital on day 4. spotting for a few days, then got heavier again after 10 days. passed a massive clot day 14 (size of hubby's fist - yukko!). barely spotting for another couple of weeks. all seemed to be pretty much stopped. few days ago started bleeding kinda heavy enough to think it's af returned

soooooooo not happy - if it's af, i went years with no visit from her that wasn't related to the AC stuff - and now i'm bf exclusively and she comes back after less than 6 weeks! grrrrr

I had a giant clot when I stood up and for the first time and showered the next morning. After that it settled down and was like a really heavy period.
    I laboured until 9cm and then had a c-section.

As far as I remember it was lighter than the lochia from my vaginal birth.

Your Mum must have had some bleeding because the blood vessels where the placenta is joined to the uterus wall 'bleed' as they seal off. The places where it joined falls off like scabs otherwise it would scar and implantation for the next baby couldn't occur. I would say that it's impossible to birth and not bleed.

I had 2 emergency c/s - the first I got to 7cm and bled for 6 weeks. The second I had a uterine rupture but was 4-5cm before that and I bled for 8 weeks.

I have heard of others that Iknow saing they had very little to no bleeding after a csection, I know I bled, heaps! lots of large clots too, for about 6-8 weeks after, the hospital confirmed I had an infection though at around 6 wks, started on ABs then passed a rather largish clot and the bleeding stopped not long after. I also had an internal bleed, leading to a collection of blood in some pocket somewhere (?) that had to be monitored until it was re absorbed.
one of the girls in my mums group said she had no bleeding after hers, the ob said they suctioned it all out for her.

    i have had 2 c sections.
my first i bled for a week, it was like a heavy period, stopped for a week then i got my period.

this time around, after my c section the nurses had to change my bed sheets 3 times because they were soaked , after coming home i had very very large blood clots and heavy bleeding but now it has been 3 weeks tomorrow and its just stopped

I bled quite heavily for about 3 weeks. I had an elective at 38+4 weeks.

I have quite heavy periods and the bleeding after baby was much worse..

I think my lochia was heavier with DS (VBAC) than with my c/s for sure. Although I did have a drain in my scar not sure if that makes any difference. And with my c/s I got AF at 4 weeks on the dot! I had lochia probably for about 2 weeks with c/s and about 5 weeks with DS (VBAC).
